Beat:Llangoed & Lower Llanstephan

Fishing:Winter Grayling

No. of Anglers:1

First time on this beat and only fished from the mill stream down a couple of pools. All trout came from the fast pacey water and most of the grayling from the heads of pools. 3 biggest grayling 14 16 and 17 inches, the others caught were salmon parr. What I fished was very nice water but cannot comment on what's below as didn't fish it. All took point fly on team of nymphs.

I am reminded what an impressive place the Llangoed Pool is. It is in part the way the shelf simply ends and drops into inky blackness, which I understand is 7m deep or more, even in low water!
I often take my elderly mother along so she can sit and admire the surroundings. She went for a walk for 20 minutes, during which I caught 4 trout, and nothing for the rest of the day. She missed all the action!

Started in the Llangoed Pool, had a red fish follow the spinner in and turn at the last second. V large fish showing between the boat and the gutters, could not interest it, but would say at least 20lb, paving slab style splash! Then fished down through the top pools in lower Llanstephan with a fly no takes, saw one grilse. Then switched sides and caught a 14lb slightly coloured hen about 60 yards up from the boat, literally the last cast of the day at gone 8pm! A very interesting and diverse fishery. Look forward to coming back with another person and exploring the depths of those gutters properly with the boat next year!
