10am start due to the cold morning. River low and clear, which made the fish very easily spooked even in my stealth mode. 7 fish all approx between 13" and 14". 3 before any hatch on upstream nymphs, 3 on the duo and 1 solitary fish on a dry fly with plenty more spooked or missed/lost on cdc dun pattern. Good hatch of ldos and Brook duns from about 1ish till about 3. Plenty of fish rising in some really hard to reach locations. Good day. Now for a rain dance.

First visit here, river very low, overcast, occasional light rain and a freezing northerly wind, downstream of course!
Walked the entire length of the beat stopping occasionaly to run gold headed nymphs through likely looking spots but didn't catch. I did see a huge trout while standing up on the bank looking down into the water though which was a fantastic sight.
A few olives started to appear, only in ones and twos but I did find a couple of fish rising but trying to cast into the stiff breeze wasn't fun and the the cows turned up for a drink so I moved upstream. I soon found more rising fish and the hatch was now in full swing but casting upstream to them wasn't possible so I carefully made my way up to them and sat on a rock under tree and watched a number of fish taking flies regularly only feet away from me. I managed two on a Greenwells Glory dry tired by myself and missed a couple more, things went quiet than, the drizzle started and it was getting very cold so decided to call it a day.
Cracking beat, lots of very fishy looking water, will be back in May.

Flurry of localised Brook Dun saved the day on a low clear and cold river. But beautiful. Thanks for Jones of Wales' help....

Watched an otter playing 10 feet away from me for twenty minutes...but neither of us found any fish. Beautiful beat, good conditions. Fished for five hours without a bite. Perhaps too early in the season.

There were a few fish rising occasionally in slower water, especially between 12 and 2, but I couldn't get them to take despite trying loads of dries and nymphs. I did have an amazing sighting of an otter hunting right in front of me which made my day.

A cool wind and increasingly overcast conditions meant very little fly life. Team of spiders with weighted nymph on point yielded nothing. Went through the whole menu with regards size and patterns, depth but still nothing doing, not even the faintest of tugs. We both saw an otter in different parts of the beat in the morning, we wanted to ask him where all the fish were but he slid off before we could speak! This is a stunningly beautiful beat with plenty of features and variety along its length. If I do return it will be later in the year as mid April is too early.

Arrived to find another car unexpectedly in the car park. Turned out to be two fly fishermen (with all the fancy gear), fishing without permission. Reported this to the Owner. It seems that poachers are becoming more sophisticated! Having sent them on their way I enjoyed a lovely day on this one of my favourite Usk beats. Fishing was a little slow with just sporadic LDO and March Browns hatching, but managed three trout to 13": on on nymph 2 on dry. All returned.
WUF Note: Thanks for reporting the poachers! If you ever see anything suspicious, always report it.
