River very low and clear. Strong downstream wind made presentation difficult. But there were rising fish. I persevered and was rewarded with 9 lovely Usk trout, all returned. Biggest 2lbs.

A moral blank. Other than the first fish, which wasn't landed, the others were of no size. A beautiful beat, but a very challenging day.

Bright sunny day, some fish rising in the morning but no luck for me. The highlight for me was when I saw a mink run down the bank and swim across the river. Memorable day despite no fish caught.

Our 3rd day on this trip and still the fish are not looking up, despite perfect conditions. We fished a tandem rig most of the day and the nymph again accounted for the vast majority of fish. Some real beauties up to 3lb lost before the net. Best fish today about 2lb.
Superb fishing thank you Wye & Usk Foundation.

Another beautiful day on the Usk. However, not ideal fishing conditions. Strong cool breeze and very clear water made it difficult to get a fly anywhere near a fish. Nil return.

A later start than I hoped for due to my fishing friends breakfast requirements (a full fry-up). 10am start and welcomed by a head wind that didn't help our rusty casting.
A fair bit of fly on the water but then the gusts of wind blew them back into their hiding places.
After lunch a few yellow mayfly were being picked off by beautiful birds (sorry about the lack of bird and fly knowledge). A couple of trout were rising between the gusts. I managed to entice a small trout that wriggled off the hook before I could land it.
We fished mainly on the surface mixing it up with Mayfly, Parachutes, Adams and other small brown flies. Two sets of people were spinning the other side of the single bank fishing sections.
Finished at 6pm due to my fishing friends rumbling tummy, I'm sure if we continued fishing we would have caught more.

Back on the Usk after 45 years!
Very little fly life and only saw 5 fish move. Rose and caught two on a jingler, but really hard work due to an increasingly stiff downstream wind.

Lovely warm sunny day but not much happening. Dries did best but not many fish to cast to.

Grim weather. Howling wind and pouring rain, but olives hatchings en masse and plenty of fish rising. Best pattern Para Adams but a brown Klink also produced. Most fish in the 3/4 to 1 lb, best around 1 1/2 lb.

Cold strong downstream wind. Good olive hatch. Rising fish were localised in various parts of steady water in the beat. Caught on tan klink, CDC shuttlecock, olive parachute.
