Nil return- again, beautiful beat (and only managed to cover the lower half in one day); strong LDO hatch all afternoon; a very few rising trout, uninterested in my offerings. Must try & return here when it's warmer.

Yesterday on Cefn R.F., with a downstream wind & showers, we struggled. Mark spotted some large trout & tried for them with a fine leader & small nymph, but they wouldn't take. I fished dry & caught a 10" trout. We left at 6p.m., tired & with aching shoulders.

Had a good day in beautiful surroundings. IM one trout around 2 lbs, TH four trout between 1 and 2 lbs. One area of concern was the presence of three other rods, all spinning.

Brief contact with one trout on a Klinkhammer, others rising short to that or a black knat. Nothing brought to the net but a lovely day with the water in excellent condition and Pale Watery Olives, Large Darks and Knats about even though rising fish were scarce. Thanks to the WUF for sorting me out on this beat after being washed off the Wye.

A very enjoyable return to a river and beat that was fished regularly 50 years ago. Unfortunately no fish were caught at this visit. The weather was poor very wet and the river rising. By mid day water was coloured and no chance of taking a fish on fly.

Fished lower section, caught 2 small brownies both about 8".
Used small black spider pattern, both fish returned.
Worked my way back upstream saw a few fish rise so put on a dry fly rose one fish but struck to fast and missed him. What a nice river the usk is felt totaly secluded, not a bit like the ever popular river Dee well worth the 200+ mile round trip.

Well done Wye Usk Foundation!

Fish rising through the day, with a noticeable increase from around 6pm in evening sunshine. Visible extensive hatches under tree cover. Excellent day despite no catch on any of Klinkhammer, Greenwell's Glory, Olive Upright or Sedge. Extensive beat which needs a full day to do it justice. Wading easier than anticipated but care still needed where river shelves away sharply.

One brown trout caught, approx 1lb on an olive dun (size 16), returned in good condition.
Plenty of fish rising in the pools and 'having a look', including a couple that jumped off the hook. A great day and a fantastic beat... already planning our next visit.
Thanks to the W&U staff for their helpful suggestions of this beat too!

Firstly, what a beautiful beat! Very secluded and one of the prettiest places I've fished. Water very low and fish very spooky. No fish caught but thoroughly enjoyed just being there. Camped at Aberbran Fawr site (Matthews fruit farm on the Penpont beat - fished it 10th July), very friendly people, £5 per night and right on the river bank - what more could you ask for?!
We will definitely be back when there is more water. WUF service is outstanding - wish I'd found it sooner! Many thanks.
