I did not fish. The rain promised did not arrive. Water too low and warm and it would distress the fish.

We arrived at around 11:00 to find two young lads fishing at the bottom of the beat, in fact on the boundary with the lower beat (Gromain?). We asked if they had had any success and, whilst they replied, they appeared to be a bit coy. We did not challenge them as this is a 5 rod beat and in theory they could have booked their slots; it was notable that they were gone pretty soon after we arrived. Also on arrival we spotted a canoe towards the far bank travelling downstream. Our discussions with the young lads meant that we did not challenge the canoeist (retrospectively we guessed that the low water levels meant that the gauge at Llanstephan would not be above the red line, but could not be sure).
Fishing was tough but we did manage to catch 7 small (6" or smaller) trout towards the bottom of the beat, all on winged olive dries. There were long periods of no surface activity at all and then sudden bursts of rises for about 10 minutes. Very few hatches were evident. Two further slightly larger (8-10") trout followed and one nice grayling around 12" long. The water level is very low which made wading quite easy but fishing challenging.

It's official. The weather forecast is CRAP!! I booked today as there was the promise of some rain at least. Whilst I wasn't expecting a spate, I'd thought the 'thundery rain' promised in the Wye catchment, would raise the water a bit and create some excitement. How wrong I was! There was the merest drizzle for about 5 minutes.
Having said that, there was a moderate showing of fish, in particular the trout that were leaping about, but sadly no larger cousins.
I did however catch a shad. A fine fish of about 1 1/2 lbs. I've had encounters with them before and seen several in the Wye. Photo attached.

River low. Only fished two hours due to holiday commitments. First time I have fly fished for 20 years - I am more at home with bream & roach on Norfolk Broads. Nevertheless, had a nice chub of around 4lb on a weighted black & green nymph and a grayling of 12oz on a fly which I can only describe as pink & white (sorry I do not know the name). I wish we had a river like this in my native Suffolk.

Very warm and sunny with huge hatches during the day. Windy conditions made it challenging but managed multiple very small brownies and one of around 1lb on dry fly and 2 decent grayling (1 on nymph).

today was a very poor day... Yes, it was bright and sunny which fish don't don't like and very windy (upstream of course), but there was no hatch of fly and no sign of rising fish. My day is usually filled with my incompetence in having takes which I fail to capitalise on, but not today. There were almost no takes. I caught a couple of small trout, and again, there was no sign of salmon.
