Love this stretch - every inch of the bank accessible. Great work done at entrance now - no bottoming out. Still very dangerous to get out if on your own - as I was. Next time I'll get out and look up the road first. Other cars really speed along that road.
Please be aware if coming from Ross that there are long standing road works just before Holme Lacy bridge involving a lengthy detour - if you know better to get to stretches like luggsmouth. holme lacy elms etc via hoarwithy bridge. No problem if coming from Hereford. Anyway the fishing- river up , no weed , brown(chicken water). Couldn't hold with 4oz and a big bow in the pylons pool. moved up to steadier water had 3 good chub and a barbel on small pieces of meat - nothing on pellet. Some small fish on corn on the float. Met a really friendly salmon angler who had a 10lb salmon in the pylon pool on a mepps. Chatted to Glynn the Ghillie - what a nice chap - who netted my lovely conditioned barbel after a spirited fight. We talked about the woes of the wye caused upstream and the problems of poaching during lockdown. Maybe he'll teach me how to salmon fish one day. As I was on my own I left just after lunch to make exiting a bit easier.
Love this beat - hope the Wye problems can be sorted before it is too late- write to your MP.

WUF note: Thank you for mentioning the Wye probs. Its a s much a Welsh issue as English . Please follow our progress on Twitter and Website

River was rising and about 18 inches up. Brown coloured and the flow was too fast to fish anywhere except tight to the margins.

After the previous days heavy rain the lugg was running in very coloured but as we where above the colour was good
The water was slowly rising all day.
Fishing into some fast water and using standard feeder method with wrapped pellet as bait had a chub first cast before it settled. Between us we had 2 Barbel the best of 7lb and one of 5.5Lb the 15 chub that where all between 3 to 4 lb.(one was the same fish twice)
Later in the day set up a stick float and trotted sweet corm taking a chub of 3.5lb and 25 or so smaller chub and some good size dace. Had a good chat with Glen at a great venue well kept and not a canoe all day
Thank you

Tough day; river really pushing through. We moved around and tried different tactics but unfortunately blanked - my first blank on this swim - beginning to think my mate is a curse...
Will be back again.

Very wet morning, which meant I didn't move around much. Fished near pylon bend and had 3 of the barbel at the start during the heaviest of the rain. The other 2 came in the afternoon when the weather cleared up a bit. All fish caught on pellets fished with a PVA bag of pellets. Best fish was 8lb 6ozs. Also had an otter put in an appearance.

It has been 5 years since last fished this beat, still as beautiful as we remember, wont leave it so long before returning again.
Fed a few swims whilst waiting for my son to arrive and as I went to collect him from roadside car park met Glynn and the landowner who were very helpful with updated info on this beat. Managed Chub and 5lb Barbel on first 3 casts of day at the Pylon run, alas that was to be final Barbel of the day. Plenty of further sport with the Chub tough from various swims including a couple on trotting gear that were both pushing 4lb.
Despite having to check booking with Landowner, WUF were back to me within 24 hours with confirmation so do not let this put you off booking this gem of a beat. Only wished we had booked to return on 2nd day rather than trying Whitehouse.

We had a cracking day, the weather was really hot for the time of year and the river was very low and clear. Tremendous conditions for a picnic but maybe not for catching barbel. Truly delightful stretch with such promising swims. Access is the best I have ever experienced on the Wye, we were able to drive to the beat and there were steps to the river in places and footing was comparatively even. I would thoroughly recommend the beat to the more mature and/or less athletic angler, I am waiting for a knee replacement and with care, I managed. Only caught one chub, the barbel didn't 'come on' even with the evening rise which we attributed to the extreme conditions.
