The river was a foot up coloured and falling and looked perfect.we fished the swims at the top of the fishery and all caught lots of chub in the 3 to 5 lb catagory plus two eels. The barbel however were not obliging with only two between us. Overall an excellent day’s fishing in a beautiful setting.

Sometimes it all comes together. The river was up and a perfect colour; it rose 6 inches during the day. There were no canoes (4) and the fish were feeding. I was expecting to be inundated with Chub as that seemed to be the trend elsewhere, but only one today. All the Barbel were pristine, all below 7lb with the smallest at 3lb. All scrapped wonderfully and all returned quickly.

From 1.2m on Tuesday with lots of chub being caught and odd barbel, to 2.2m when we fished and chocolate brown - more barbel but less of an all round fishing experience as we were confined to the near quarter of the river - never happy us anglers. Very mild morning with river temp of 9.5 and 6 inch vis. 3 stayed in their swims all day, one at the beach (4 barbel to 7.5lb, all late on gb feeder with 10mm halibuts and a long tail having tried loads) and two up the top (1 with three of 3, 3, & 4 and one with 1 of 5lb, all on maggot feeder - lost 1 each). I tried two swims down the bottom for one chub, moved below Steve at 1100 who was catching, to completely jinx his day with hardly a bite after, an affliction that I too had using maggot and gb feeders with all manner of hookbaits. My last throw was to move into the top swim at 1500 using straight lead and meat with meat in a PVA bag and ensured a happy last trip of the season with barbel of 7.12 and 8. The other were a dace, a gudgeon and an eel. Thanks for a great season WUF. Now have to endure the puddles for 3 months!

Fished top stretch beyond car park. Caught 1 barbel 9lb close in on pellet and ground bait feeder, 1 big barbel lost and 1 chub caught. Bailiff really helpful and rope assisted access to swims a real benefit when it rained.

I arrived at 7.10am to find RB there and parked up just off the track. On doing the same, within 5 minutes we discovered our 2WD drive cars were both stuck! After some careful placement of branches and pushing, to our relief we were able to help each other out! Despite being relatively fit and having a ground spike and rope with me, I opted to play safe, and went down to the bottom swim opposite the castle, and RB and I fished next to each other. River was around 1.2m on the local gauge with some colour, and the rain was doing its thing in the morning, clearing up by noon-ish.
Using a mix of meat and GB feeder or maggot feeder, I was able to bring a steady stream of chub to the net over the day, most 3-4lb, with the biggest just over 4lb. it was great to see RB bring a wonderful chub to the net - it looked enormous! Stephan appeared mid-morning, and as usual, was helpful in his advice.
This beat is a good year round venue, in the same bracket as How Caple Court.
