A challenging day. River a chocolate torrent, chilly and rainy! It was still a lovely day out though!
Just managed one oos Grayling between us. Hooked two little trout, but both escaped the net.

Enjoyable day. River up a bit but clear enough to see where I was wading and plenty of fishable water therefore . Weather changeable and few rises. Caught the small brown on a pheasant tail nymph with red thorax in medium running water half way down the beat. Had few more bits on similar fly.

Having escaped the Wye at Goodrich (still a touch too high for safe and effective fishing with the fly it turned out), I arrived at the Skenfrith beat of my childhood to see whether I could salvage the day. The Monnow was also higher than ideal but clearing. There was a heavy hatch of mainly caddis in the Easter sunshine but I didn't see a single rise. I fished nymphs in the slightly coloured water and despite several missed takes, I didn't wet my net. An absolutely beautiful day in the Monnow Valley though. Sunshine, gambolling lambs and the beautiful Monnow at Skenfrith. Perfect.

Tough day on the river. Water level was a little high but the water rushing through and it was thick with colour resembling gravy ! I didn't feel it was fishable but gave it a go for a few hours having travelled from the Midlands. Nothing happening, which i think was due to the colour. Sadly no fish seen or felt.

Lovely day on the river.

I managed 2 Grayling, both on nymph under indicator.
My compadre did better (as he always does!) netting 7 grayling and 1 oos Brownie. All but two under indicator, the others euronymphing.

River really low for time of year... need some sustained rain or summer's not looking pretty!

Roll on trout season :)

Severely handicapped myself today by only bringing a French nymphing outfit on what turned out to be a low and clear river. All fish caught on a sz18 olive sow bug on the dropper, before 1pm, after which the sun was high and bright behind me. Grayling of 15" & 13", and a lean OOS brownie of 15".
The resident Dippers put on their usual show.

Crisp and chilly morning. Overcast. River had a good flow to it, but it did seem a little low, I guess we haven’t had rain for about two weeks. Fished with nymph (Pink Shrimp) on a Klinkhammer indicator. I was fishing the nymph at about 4 feet to start with, then in one of the deeper slower parts fo the river I decided to go down to about 6-7 feet. One grayling of about 10-12" resulted.

A slow day, but beautiful none the less. Unfortunately my waders didn’t miraculously patch themselves up over winter… freezing wet feet for most of the five hours, but great fun and it was lovely to be out on the river.
