Beautiful river to fish. Typical August fishing, warm sunny day and nothing much happening until the evening. One nice brownie of about 10", the rest were in the 4-6" range. Some great glides and pools and another time of the year, this would be a fabulous fishery to be sure.

Fished for a couple of hours in the evening. Saw some rises but didn't have any takes. Stayed at the Bell at Skenfrith, which was excellent.

Fished evening only from about 730pm. Hot and humid with abundant insect life. Small rise later. One small 'Lady of the Stream' on a beaded nymph tied to a dry fly, New Zealand style. No trout.

A classic Monnow day. Some fish had no discernible spots, others had faint spots. All yellow underparts. Caught fish on Coch y Bonndhu, Daddy Longlegs. Many Mayflies still about. Nice to see booth Kingfishers and Dippers on the same stretch.

Only one rod fished from about 8pm to 10.15pm. Weather warm, still and bright. Nothing moving until about 9.45pm when a rise began and small fish were taking from the surface.
Disappointing.

Phew Scorchio! Blazing sunshine tempered by the odd cloud, a hot a sultry morning. Fished the section adjacent to the woods with Klink and a nymph, caught one tiddler. Fished it again with a dry, the odd snatch but nothing serious. Plenty of Yellow May Duns coming off the water but as usual, trout express little interest. Retired to the Bell for a cooling pint. Went home, returned at 7pm, got soaked in a very heavy shower. Half hearted evening rise at 9:30pm although hatch was fairly vigorous. Caught another 3 very small fish, less than 8oz.

Almost no fish rising during the day and nothing happened until about 6pm when good hatches started and fish started to rise. We then caught 10 and missed another 5 or 6, all of good size (30cms +). A great day in the end but difficult during the afternoon.

Cloudy in the morning giving way to sunshine around lunch time. A few olives coming off throughout the day and even a few late mayfly but I only saw 2 fish rising. The river was running with a hint of colour. I caught on a size 16 black parachute dry fly by fishing likely looking spots. I hooked and lost 1 fish on a gold head hares ear. A lovely beat and an extremely enjoyable day. A word of warning. After entering the field a walk of around 400 yards will bring you to a clump of trees. One of the trees has a 3-4 inch diameter hole in it. This is a bee's nest so take care.
