Fishing:Trout (River)
Weather was hot and sunny with a slight breeze, river was slow to medium flow and was approx 3ft deep between the road bridge and cottage. Using a small fly rod and black gnat fly, caught three trout in a small eddy (L/H/S WITH FLOW) and caught my grayling at the bottom of a small rapid. All fish weighed approx 1.lb to 1.1/2lb, all fish were retuned unharmed and immediately. Had a fantastic days fishing, sorry its taken so-long to reply as I did not realise I had to report my catch. Many thanks. Trout were brown.

This was my first try at fly-fishing. The weather was hot and sunny, the river was slow with small rapids and deep holes halfway down from the road bridge. I found a deep hole with a small eddy. From approx 20ft above the eddy I cast my dry fly and within 5 mins I caught my 1st trout followed by 2 more within the hour. I moved lower down the river and took a nice grayling what a great first fly fishing day. I would like to thank the foundation for its prompt and helpful service for me a fantastic day, I will be in touch again.

As per 26 August, the fish stayed very safe, with little sign of any wanting to come to the surface. Nothing came near my fly. But it was a very pleasant afternoon with my son.

Lovely afternoon's fishing. Persevered with dry flies, but nothing came to the surface. Nil return, but a pint at the Bell proved sufficient to restore my faith that next time it'll be different.

A quiet day - two rods fished from 2pm to 8pm but only one take (not brought to hand) and just three rises. Very little activity but a beautiful stretch of water

River in good condition although a little low. No sign of any fish and very little fly life. Enjoyed the day fishing from 11am until 5.30pm but caught nothing.

Fished from 6PM to 9PM, very few rises so fished the faster more oxegenated waters with GBPTN, Czech nymph style, caught a beautiful WBT of 13". Water quite low, warm and overcast weather. Lovely evening.

Decided last minute to fish the last hour or so of daylight and was able to book the beat out of hours online with no problem. Armed with the emailed information I headed off and had an enjoyable hour and a half on the river. There was plenty going on, lots of fly life and the trout were active, I missed several takes, brought two to hand of about 8" and lost another that looked more like 10". Most of the interest was on a parachute Adams and a grey F Fly (I think). Really appreciated being able to do this spur of the moment thanks to WUF.

Returned to the Skenfrith beat at the end of our holiday and fished the evening rise - around 7:30pm to 9:45pm. Again no fish landed - weather still very hot and dry and extremely low water - but two takes missed, one to wet fly and one to dry. Reasonable numbers of small fish around.

We fished early (6am - 8:30am) and late (8:30pm - 9:30pm) as we were holidaying in The Old Post Office in Skenfrith (available via Welsh Country Cottages and good for large family group bookings). Unfortunately we didn't manage to tempt anything in the very hot, dry weather though we did see a few trout and, in the deepest pool, a couple of large chub. The beat access is very easy and the river is straightforward to fish with both wet and dry fly, I am sure that it will fish very well in more propitious conditions.
