River high 2'9" but falling to 2'6". Much better visibility than the previous week but tried all the upper pools and did not have a touch, except for the odd kamikaze brown trout that took a liking to a conehead.
Just as in politics, a week is a long time in salmon fishing !

A red letter day ! Lost one of 14-15lb in rocks that spent most of its time in the air (so I had a really good look at it) before the hook pulled right at the net. Had a second one on for 10 seconds or so which then fell off. Feeling pretty sorry for myself at that point but the next three of 11lb, 12lb, and 14lb all stuck so smiles all round ! Well not for Chris or James who didn't have a pull I guess (although both maintained their sense of Humphreys throughout) but I wasn't doing anything special. Down and across with a slow sinktip and a conehead. Water was at 1'9" and dirty from overnight rain. Visibility was poor (less than 1ft) but it cleared during the day and dropped to 1'6". Drive back to London was an easy one for a change !

A day filled with much hope at the start, river: perfect height, moderate amount of colour, but clearing with every passing hour & overcast. A full day fishing and no catch.. certainly made me question my approach considering another chap fishing, Connected with 5 fish landing 3 of them! A blank is one thing, but when there is a lot of action for another fisherman you do start to become confused! Great to meet both him and Chris, hopefully see them again soon.

The water level had dropped by about a foot overnight but it didn't help with the salmon - I didn't see one all day despite casting a fly in almost every pool. However, I did catch 3 small trout on a size 12 posh tosh then a 1lb chub on a Ally's shrimp after lunch. My first trout and chub on salmon flies!

IT's been a bit lifeless on the river recently, including salmon-wise. I hooked a good fish which snapped my line, and another I didn't expect which took and got off.
On the bright side, I bumped into Jeremy Wade! I wonder what 'River Monsters' he was searching for on the Wye... !
