An interesting but successful days fishing at last! Went to the lower part of the beat, as another rod was already at the pool I had fished on Tuesday. Tried to cast a fly but with my gammy ankle and reduced mobility, found wading very difficult. So, resorted to a spinner in the Mill Stream from the bank, just below what I thought was the main run. In the space of 20 minutes, I had 2 Salmon, a cock and a hen, both slightly coloured and both about 12 lbs. Both caught on a small Mepps, casting upstream! Didn’t see anything else all day apart from some reasonable trout rising.

Just fished a few hours this evening.
Put a spinner through the usual likely spots but the river was filthy with the higher water since Monday night. A long and pointless drive for a blank but I’m still trying to learn the nuances of this river after rain.
At least I managed to avoid the 1966 Blah Blah (yet) again on the telly.

River still disappointingly low first thing for salmon fishing, but rose through the day and was unfishable by tea time with the clarity very poor. Two fish did show at the bottom of the beat in the afternoon though, one quite coloured.
Had some entertainment with the trout rod, first in the Island stream then in Rectory stream with the fish taking a GRHE or an Iron Blue dun. As usual, many more missed and came off.

First time at this beat. River rose about 9 inches throughout the day becoming slightly coloured. Concentrated on Island and Rock Pool. No fish caught and, apart from a big splash towards the bridge, no salmon seen. Enjoyable day none the less, getting used to new Salmon fly rod and line.

Lots of fish above the bridge pool , it warmed up a couple of degrees and the fish switched onto nymphs.

The river was low (0.65m on the Erwood gauge) so I didn’t have high hopes. I caught one brown trout in the Island pool but there were no salmon showing above Boughrood bridge. I continued to fish the left bank, going thorough Bridge Pool and finishing at the Mill Race. There were a few salmon rising in Ty Mawr pool, including one big double under the electricity cables (what is it with salmon and power lines/pylons?). Unfortunately they were unreachable with the fly from the left bank.

Another very bright day, fishing was tricky again .a slight hickup as I forgot I had given the car keys to one of the other rods,he also forgot.I answered my phone in the river so convinced myself that's where they were.2 walks down the best revealed nothing.Jonathan Morris was with is and kindly drove me back to builth for the spare set..the original set then appeared from a pocket at the end of the day.guess who had to buy the first round in the Griffin
