Fished from Island Run to the Flats and from Mill race to Neck of Rectory. Nothing seen. Despite the rain showers, it was a lovely day. The water was "gin" clear, all that was missing was the elusive salmon!

My guest (my son) had a mixed day! He caught a trout, but his waders (my old ones) leaked like a sieve. It rather limited his (and then my) day.

Fished a salmon fly in the few deeper pools with 8’’ on the gauge. Nothing seen.
There was a big shoal of lady spawners in the top of the beat today which constantly beat any trout to the fly. There were some good sized trout amongst them though. Very few rising fish seen all day despite a decent mixed olive hatch around 1.00 o’clock. Fish were taken on spiders and nymphs.
The “others” were from the sizeable population of tiny grayling and trout parr which made a bit of a nuisance of themselves in the low water. Hopefully, they won’t be cleaned out by predatory birds if this dry spell persists.
All fish in good condition and quickly returned.

Started at the top of the Rectory beat albeit some what low water just finding the odd deep holes - worked all the way where I could right through to the bottom of the beat .
Apart from the odd one or two trout having a go at a Dee Monkey nothing else .
Need a flush of water now , situation looks pretty poor right through the river system for the run of Salmon with only a handful taken , hopefully it will pick up .. Seen plenty of Goozanders and Cormorants , it’s only going to get worse if nothing is done , about time the EA etc done something about it , RSPB haven’t got a clue the devastating impact these birds are doing to our waters , let alone the chicken shat causing phosphate levels to rise .
Nothing done soon , we may as well hang the rods up .
