No action until very late in the afternoon. River had been dead calm/quiet all day before. Fish taken on nymphs again. There were rises to a late afternoon hatch however.

Good morning fish quite well spread out mostly small but a few more net-able fish. Started by the bridge and picked one or two fish off all the way down to just above glangwye, a couple of better sized fish came from the new salmon catch below the gravel catch. All came to small nymphs.

Conditions were near perfect despite the wind, but not fish were showing. I had 3 shy-takes, presumable from salmon, but none were really hooked. At about 14:30, my new rod snapped mid-section and i hadn't brought my spare. A miserable end to the season!

A few fish seen in rock pool. Neighbouring angler had two salmon from tail of pool. Water a good height and colour. Great day despite not getting a touch.

Another great day on the Rectory. Fished solidly from 8.30am to 6.30pm. Water level at 1 foot 11" and barely dropped. Clarity perfect. Covered all the main pools but no pulls whatsoever. Then hit a pod of fish and had three takes in 5 casts, landing 12lb cock, and 10lb hen, and dropping another fish at the net. Chris Ryan, who had morphed from fishing mate catching trout to my ghillie for the day, apologised profusely for "operator error" but to be honest it was my own foul-up. I used one of Ken Evan's gold bodied Willie Gunn piglet on a floating line with an 8 foot slow sink poly leader. We carried on fishing and both had a couple of tentative pulls which didn't develop into proper takes and that was it. 20 minutes of frenetic activity and it was all over. But what a 20 minutes !

Despite what felt like excellent conditions we failed to connect with a salmon. River rose and fell in small waves during the day bringing leaves and a little more colour. Several fish seen running through.

Water came up overnight and was heavily coloured until mid afternoon. Dropped slowly but only a foot of visibility until late in the day. Not a touch until 5pm and then 3-4 trout in quick succession. No salmon but a couple seen in Rock and one seen in Gravel Catch. Tomorrow will be a day to remember for someone.

3 Trout
