A small clear rise of a couple of inches as I was fishing gave a little hope, but no salmon seen or touched. One lovely spotty trout, a couple that fell off, one chub and a shad that fell off.

River was up 3 inches during the night and slowly rising. Fished the Ferry pool for 20 min in the morning caught a shad on the fly and many takes from other shad didn't fish rest of the day due to casting tuition.

Intermittent sunshine and showers, clear water. First time fishing this beat - first time fishing a 'real' river and fishing in waders! Some rising fish, a good variety of insect life, caught on gold & silver headed nymphs, Klinkhammer and May-flies. Met some of Wye & Usk Foundation workers and other friendly people. Many thanks to all involved!

First time fishing Gromain for two of us - all three of us mixed fishing ability, one old hand and one new-comer to fly fishing (me). Studded chest waders are a must!!! Would also recommend a stick.
Mixed weather, sunshine and showers with some rising fish scattered about. River running clear but apparently a little lower than normal but rising.
Plenty of insect life about. Fished and caught with mainly weighted nymphs (on droppers and New Zealand style) and Klinkhammer. Smaller fish also taking mayfly. Nothing bigger than eight inches consequently nothing kept.
A beautiful day, very friendly and helpful locals and members of the Wye & Usk Foundation. Thank you!

I caught 4 trout, fly fishing, using largely diawl bach and a white dry fly. Fish were returned except one, which swam under a rock and got tangled up. By the time I got it undone, it was barely breathing. I tried to do that thing where you revive it by pushing it back and forth through the water, but after a few minutes it didn't come back.
My first fish caught in 50 hours of fishing in wales (mostly in winter though), it was one of the most fun days I've ever fished! I was starting to think there weren't any fish...
Thank you Wye Usk foundation

No salmon caught or seen but caught a shad and a trout on the fly. Shoals of shad showing, some around the 3 to 4lb mark and trying to take the fly from the bottom of the Heirag and the Ferry pool

It was wonderful to have a chance to fish Gromain again after a gap of several years! The water had dropped a little quicker than hoped from a recent small spate but was ok at 1ft 2". Started 5.30am with size 10 red Ally's at the head of the Spring pool, spent too much time messing about in the gutters and eddies behind rocks at the top with currents and fly going in all directions! - the tail end fished nicely but annoyingly the sun was on the water by the time I got to the tail 50 yards or so, perhaps better to focus here first next time in these conditions. Fished on through the Cottage and waded out successfully to fish the big rock and all fished really well. Drove to Boughrood and bought a pastie and choc fudge cake in the shop - becoming an annual treat when fishing upper Wye! Went to Bachawy pool and fished through in very hot and bright conditions. Had a snooze for 2 hrs and did some casting practice, still with a size 10 Ally's towards the opposite boards and had the first shad. Went off to Builth and found the excellent Cosy Corner tea rooms - do go!! Returned for an evening session from 6pm. Fished Heirag and caught another Shad, moved up to Spring pool and another shad. Cottage and the big rock again for nothing and feeling the pressure of a blank had a final cast through the Heirag and two more shad and a decent trout took a size 8 Usk Grub. No luck with the Salmon caught or seen but wonderful day out. Many thanks WUF.

After 3 days of heavy rain, the water was coloured and pushing through, so difficult conditions. Nothing rising. 2 trout, both caught on the nymph.
