6 Trout, 3 Grayling, 1 Chub

The river was carrying a little colour but the level was still at 4-5” despite the overnight rain that was forecast. Overcast conditions kept the water temperature reasonable for trout fishing but I did take a number of readings to check throughout the day.
The trout were mainly small but with five or six in the 8-11” bracket, and the grayling included two of 2-21/2lb from Herons. Fish taken from the off on a range of wets and spiders. Size 18 GRHE nymphs also successful. All quickly returned and not netted.I stayed around hoping for a spinner fall late on. Nothing materialised although the sultry conditions were promising.
A very pleasant day despite the slightly limited fishable water.

Arrived around midday conditions very hot and sunny. Tried below the bridge at the lower end of the beat, rivers was running a brownish peat colour may have been a release of water from a reservoir somewhere up stream.
Nothing doing at all.

By 16.00 the water cleared a little and for the next 90 or so minutes fish started to move and take off the surface. A size 16 grey wolf and black knat on the dropper attracted plenty of attention. Trout circa 8 to 10 inches, Grayling circa 10 inches. All returned unharmed.

Great afternoon. Energetic little brownie. Caught two, could have caught many more, but thought I would try for salmon. I had a knock, much to my surprise and the hook snapped. Could have been a very large trout, but I believe I saw enough silver to think what might have been!

Water looked perfect apart from the obvious heat and bright sunshine. No fish seen, netted a nice 2lb brownie, returned, a chub and a sparkling Shad.

Hot and sunny, and river very low. Lovely beat - plenty of water to explore. Sorry to the grayling for disturbing their off-season

Lovely evening with friends, upstream wind didn't help with casting or hatches. Very low water but a good chance to see potential lies when we get a rise. Thoroughly enjoyable.

Tricky fishing in still bright conditions. Fish feeding on a variety of flies with every fish wanting something different. Later on they switched on to grannom. Was a little under gunned with only a 3 weight to get over to rising fish. All in all a lovely beat though.
