Saturday proved to be a good day despite the varying weather, not many hatches were showing but fish were rolling under the surface. Czech and standard over and across proved to be the best methods. The fish were holding deep. In Total 4 trout were taken with one being decent size 1.5lbs and a Grayling approx 9"taken on a gold bead head nymph. Lovely beat with very deep pools for holding salmon however known were seen.

Water Level extremely low so had to go out into the middle to try and fish, the wind was quite strong out in the middle which made the fishing almost impossible, I did not like this river its to large I think it would suit Salmon fishers really.

My first attempt of Salmon fishing on the fly. My thanks to Stephen Marsh-Smith for his help to set me up and give me a few casting tips. God knows what he thought as he left me to it! However, after a while, I found my confidence and managed to fish pretty well from both sides of the river. A totally new experience for me and I can say that I have never learnt so much in one days fishing. All I need to do now is catch a Salmon. Watch this space!

First time on this water and with 3 hours to spare, I fished the top of the beat spinning. No fish to report.

Beautiful spring day, if a bit bright for fishing. Still, when you're somewhere as lovely as this beat you don't get too frustrated. There were a few grannom coming off throughout the day with a much more sustained hatch in the late morning. The trout were feeding on the surface at this time and a couple were taken on a parachute Adams. All the other fish came to small weighted nymphs. Great to be back on the river.

A lovely day on Gromain, which started off quite slowly with a few fish taken on deep fished nymphs. Once the sun warmed things up, the fishing just got better and better. At 1 O'clock there was a good hatch of light grey uprights which lasted for a good hour. A few LDO's also. During this period the fish were rising freely and took 10 fish in the same pool. Mainly 8-10 inch Grayling but a few trout up to a pound and a half. All taken on a Parachute Adams or similar flies.
It's nice to see the river start to wake up after the long winter and take fish on the dry, as I feel I have been dragging the bottom of as long as I can remember!
