Lovely stretch of water but very low compared to what I imagine it gets to. One brown trout but the fishing was very difficult. The weather very warm with not much flow from the area you park the car to the bottom pool. However, there were numerous large fish seen in shoals around 10am but I was unable to get down to the water without spooking them. Definitely will return on another day. A canoe was seen - I didn't think they were allowed when the water was low?
WUF Note: At current water heights the canoeist was in breach of the access arrangements. If you come across this please inform the canoeist of the situation (without endangering yourself) and report it to the Foundation, including details of the organisation if it is an identifiable group.

Water was very low and clear, and bright sunlight made conditions quite testing. Low water made wading relatively easy, enabling access to parts of the beat usually too deep to fish through. Most fish were caught on small nymph patterns, with black pennell and pheasant tails proving most attractive. Only one was caught on a dry pattern - a small elk hair fished through slower pocket water at the middle of the beat.
All fish were in great condition.

Sunny in the morning, cloudier in afternoon. Air temperature, low 20's. Water temperature 14/15C. River low with bottom covered in slimy weed (algae?) in slowest stretches. River in need of a spate.
Arrived at 11am to localised hatch of olives. Caught 5 good trout on dry Parachute Adams, best 20 inches (2lb 14oz)- a superb fish and best from the Usk. River became dead in mid afternoon.

Although there was sporadic surface activity the fish seemed very 'spooky'. Presumably this was in part due to the river being extremely low and clear.

A lovely day. 4 trout to 3/4lb, all on dry fly, all returned. Played and lost a leviathan.

Weather surprisingly good despite the hurricane warning! Water a little improved but not high. Some small trout caught and bigger versions seen, but no salmon.
There are signs to say the beat is patrolled regularly. Perhaps the patrols can remove the increasing amount of rubbish collecting on the beat. There was a rusty bike, a scooter, metal rods, tyres and general rubbish. Very poor indeed.

A lovely day to fish and my favourite beat too. I have been keeping an eye on the weather and water levels and though it was worth a punt. It wasn't! The water was pretty low and virtually little sign of fish all day. There were a couple rising at the bottom, but no sign of salmon sadly. I hope I was just unlucky.

Probably not the best time to come, but the only window available for me before the season end. Advised by a guy from the farm I walked past the burgeoning balsam to the lower end of the beat where "the boys" would normally fish in low water conditions. I was greeted by some spectacular aerobatic displays by some pretty impressive fish, one in particular will stay in my mind for years to come! But alas, connecting with these bruisers proved another matter. With no discernible hatch and exhausting my repertoire/fly selection I moved up stream to more rises, constant throughout the day bar the showers late afternoon/early evening. I just could not connect with anything, even trying the French leader set up (more work needed with that methinks!). Ok, the conditions weren't the best but this must have been the most frustrating day I have had fishing, and I've had a few. A blank to be recorded and a retaliatory re-booking next season! Thanks once again to all at WUF.
