Fishing:Coarse

Was really looking forward to this beat as had great afternoon on dean and chapter day before. Unfortunately it was not a great day. Access is really hard walk down the hill is a pain especially if wet which it was. Then over a style with over hanging trees
So all gear off etc. Ist 1/3 of mile very hard to fish as water so low and bank steep and high above water
Found some faster water at bottom of beat ( more styles though so gear off/ back on etc. We both like trotting, swim looked great (last croy) fed pellet trotted
Using pellet, luncheon meat and finally maggot and could hardly manage a bite apart from a couple of small dace and a chublet. Switched to ledgered pellet and a good take from good fish but hooked pulled a few seconds into fight. Switched again to roll meat l good bite resulted in chub around 3lb had a few more bites which i missed so we packed up early with thoughts of the long walk back ( over styles, bridge and finally up the hill my pal really struggled with the hill. I personally wouldn't fish this beat again

Fished top end on croy later morning into the afternoon with a couple of chub for my efforts father in law spotted some barbel on the shallow glides and managed a few fish 2 barbel and 6 chub. I moved onto slightly deeper water into dusk but only managed 2 chub. Lovely beat but it needs abut of water In as it's very shallow in places. The pegs are steep also a dog spike and rope would be required

I fished the croy at the top end of the fishery from 12.30 to 17.00 following a recommendation from a friend. The river conditions were very low and clear along with a strong downstream wind and rain which made trotting difficult. Had I been able to stay a little longer I may have fared better.

Didn’t fish this beat we walked the beat first and access to the water was very poor and the hill on the way back was to much for us

The river was low and clear but the weather was perfect really for the time of year.

We all fished the stick float, trotting meat all day and ended up having a fantastic day, netting 30 Chub and 5 Barbel between the 3 of us. Some nice Chub, easily up to the 4 and half pound mark and amongst the Barbel were two 7lb+, the biggest weighing 7lb 11oz.

A brilliant day, making the walk back to the car and up "that hill" very much worth it!

5 Barbel, 30 Chub
