O.k, arrived about midday to find a hired van parked in the usual parking space and sure enough there was 2 guys fishing with all the gear with no tickets, not impressed! They packed up and guessing they probably been fishing here all week along with the foreign speaking fisherman in the last feedback . Having fished about 10 different beats I haven't seen any bailiffs or private WUF signs at all which I think is a must to deter people from abusing these lovely beats. Sorry to have a moan but my local club has this in place and it works. Anyway, caught some nice big chub on meat in nice clear water conditions.
WUF Note: We were very sorry to hear about this experience. Coming across poachers is, unfortunately, a risk on any fishery, however many signs are put up. There is little that can be done about these incidents several days afterwards. We therefore urge anglers to call the EA/NRW incident line (0800 80 70 60) immediately if you come across people fishing illegally or without permission. If the incident is on a Passport beat, please also report it to us as soon as you can on 01874 712074. If you feel threatened in any way, please call the police on 101 or 999. Advice on poaching incidents is given in the “What To Do Guide” issued with every booking.

Fished 3 swims in the first field. Nothing. Very disappointing days fishing in lovely surroundings.
Ran into 2 foreign speaking men spinning. I asked if they had a permit but apparently they didn't understand English.
They disappeared. Highlight of the day was watching an otter feeding in mid river in daylight. Last day of 5 days fishing. Stayed at the Falcon House B&B at How Caple. Ideal for all WUF waters between Ross and Hereford. Well recommended.

River low and clear, a cold night before. Fishing very hard as on all Wye that week. Lovely stretch, no canoes all day. Saw two otters, plenty of bird life, great scenery and think the stretch could be good in the right conditions. Plenty of variety in river, shallows, deeps etc. Will visit again. Few fish to float fished maggots off croy swim.

Fished waggler and maggot in middle of first meadow upstream of the entrance, 1 pm - 6.30 pm. Four barbel 5 - 8lbs, 1 chub 2.5 lbs, 4 very small dace, lots of minnows. Water low, weather bright after a cold start with variable downstream wind, some cloud cover later. Lots of salmon moving, several different fish apparent.

Fishing slow, only 2 takes all day. Access difficult with only 2 or 3 swims available and we weren't informed about cardiac hill!

River looked perfect - about 2 foot up with a tinge but this made the broken water swims upstream difficult to access. I used a rope to get into one then sat out in the water. Caught a good barbel - possibly 9lb plus on meat casting across and lost another on double 8 mm pellet. Strange no chub. Mick fished nearer the start and in his 3rd swim caught another big barbel - again well over 8lb on meat and a 4lb chub. He cast to 3/4 as far bank shallowed up a bit.
Looks like a boundary where fish are fewer but good in terms of size. Fished feeders all day with pellets ,hemp and a bit of groundbait through the feeder. Travel light as walk to the end is long plus 1 stile, 1 gate and a really uncomfortable iron bridge over a tiny feeder stream. Croy swim looked like it had loads of potential but could not decide how to fish it - too many options.
Lovely quiet beat with the far bank covered in glorious woods in places. 3 mewing buzzards overhead most of the day. Saw one walker and a couple of canoeists.

My first visit to the Wye and it certainly didn't disappoint! River quite coloured and pacy. All fish came from two rod lengths out from the first accessible swim. Used Krill flavour throughout my ground bait to my hook bait - a grateful nod towards Martin Bowler - thank you.
