Fishing very poor with one of the 3 anglers getting no bites at all in 2 days! Water colour was good but level a little low with very little weed coming down the river. All anglers were bottom fishing with various different baits tried. Plain ledgers and swim feeders were tried, with ground bait and loose feed used.

What a difference! Last time we came, about 3 weeks ago, the water level was 3-4 feet higher and the barbel were feeding. This time the current was slack and although a warm day I guess the water temperature was well down.
We started on the upper section where we fished before but couldn't even elicit a chub knock, so we moved to the bottom end where there are more swims. The water looked great, ideal we thought, but still no bites despite trying most swims.
Later on GW caught a nice chub, and SP set up his float trotting rod and managed to catch a small trout and a perch of about one and a half pounds.
I blanked, a rare event thankfully. Better luck next time, hopefully.

All set for another good day. Conditions exactly the same as previous day, there was even a little light cloud. You all know the feeling. Results say all. Still think this place is excellent and enjoyed it.

Weather was bright and sunny all day with river running clear and quite slow so adopted the trotting and light feeder tactics. No surface weed or debris although there is light subsurface weed running through but it didn't detract. Looking towards the Island Pool where the river widens it looked really impressive, it will stop you in your tracks, and a fantastic area to fish. Unfortunately not a lot of swim access to that part so we fished the Mill Pool and towards the Pump Pool area as the swims were well set out.
Didn't have time to fish the upper stretch as only there two days. This beat really does leave you spoilt for choice and does cater for the wandering approach. Biggest barbel to 8lbs and nice perch to 1 1/2lb. All fish caught on maggot. Awesome venue which has left a lasting impression. Plenty of buzzard action and even what looked like a mink . Thanks WUF.

Tough day on this scenic stretch. Cold night followed by bright sunshine didn't help. One bite, one Chub on meat.

Another extremely bright day following a cold night resulted in a tough days fishing. 3 barbel and 1 chub to PW while CS and SC managed only 1 chub each. Bomb and pellet or meat brought the fish. A lovely length but probably needs extra water to bring out the best in it.

Fished the lower end of the beat and between us caught a disappointing 3 chub between the 2 of us. Tried a number of different swims with every bait imaginable but it was very quiet, especially as this beat has been successful for us the in past.
Water was very low but well coloured, the 3 Chubb were caught on Luncheon Meat.

Nice beat. Decent access to swims at lower section, but top section in woods virtually inaccessible. Typical stunning Wye scenery. Thanks.

An early misty start broken by a noisy arrival of 3 fisherman who were dropped off in a transit van opposite the wooded area and commenced fishing, was not long before they were into Barbel.
JY and I started at the upper end of the beat, nothing at all so moved down to the lower section for the afternoon, a lot more successful, 6 barbel, 5 chub and a sea trout all taken on pellet.
A stunning stretch of the river and will definitely try to head back again in the future.

A combination of bright sunshine, numerous swans, canoes and cattle contributed to several periods of disruption throughout a challenging day. The river appeared to be in fine condition, with a hint of colour, but we again found that appearances can be deceptive, with the presence of weed also creating some difficulties.
The warm sunny weather remained comfortable for us fishermen throughout the day but that meant it was less conducive to deceiving our piscatorial quarry. Despite our best efforts, rewards were limited to some small Chub and a young Barbel of 1lb 12oz, although it's great to see the next generation of fish looking so healthy. (One person seen fishing on the opposite bank, and several cormorants were unfortunately very active along the stretch).
Overall, a great day was enjoyed on the river, commemorating BP’s retirement and birthday in fine style, with the scenery and wildlife providing a wonderful backdrop.
