First of 4 days on Courtfield and Wyebank, river still up but dropping and what a change in the weather with clear blue skies and temperatures in the eighties, good for fishing but maybe not for catching. All fished the meadow on Courtfield as Wyebank still up and running and P opened up with an 8lb Barbel from the middle of the meadow and went on to catch another fish of a similar size plus two Chub. K followed this with a 8lb 12oz fish from the waterworks end and had another two plus two Chub. Champ on the day though was A 15 yr old son J who with A fished the last swim on the meadow for a cracking fish of 9lbs 4ozs plus a smaller sample. Dad fishing alongside could only manage a 6lb fish plus 2 Chub to 4lbs 8ozs. I wieghed in with 3 Barbel between 6-7lbs from the middle of the meadow, banks still very slippery.

3 barbel to 8lbs and no chub today on a fast rising river, all caught again on the pellet feeder. Courtfield is a lovely fishery , Don very helpful and booking with Wye and Usk Foundation is so easy, highly recommended.

Had two very good days Fishing the Meadow. Almost 50 barbel caught to 10lbs and another of 9lbs 8oz. Plenty of chub with a few 4lbers. Many of the barbel were above 5lbs and there was a good scattering of year classes. The weather did hold and the river did rise but only about 6". Most were caught on pellets. I think all 3 of us went home very happy people. Fish were caught throughout the day.
P and A both had pb's for chub and barbel and couldn't thank Don enough for having a wonderful fishery.

Yet more rain the previous day meant I arrived to find a high and still rising river. I fished fairly close in and although action was slower than normal, I finished with 3 barbel, the best weighing in at 9lb 6oz, my best for over a year.
One drawback of fishing the near bank was also catching three eels which, although released safely, make a complete mess of your hooklinks.
All fish caught using elips pellets and a feeder.

River very coloured, 2 metres of extra water and still rising through the morning. Dispite this managed a couple of nice barbel, both around 7lbs. River started to fall a little in the afternoon, but the fish remained unimpressed and I finished with just the two bites. Could have been worse given the conditions!

My first trip to courtfeild, what a fantastic day I had. I looked for a swim with a bit of comfort to be honest after sitting in the mud and skating around on it all afternoon the day before. The first 5 casts produced 1 chub, 3 barbel and 1 lost. What a start. By 12 noon I had caught 10 barbel 5 chub. This can't continue i thought? By 3.45pm I was on 16 barbel, 6 chub, then it slowed down catching 1 more before I went at 8.45pm. The final score was 17 barbel to 8lbs and 6 chub to 5lbs 3oz, with a few lost to hook pulls snags etc ,all on pellet and boilie and open end feeder. Great to be able to speak to someone like Don who literally knows the river inside out, enjoyed the chat. Last thing I even managed to catch a barbel within seconds of a canoe going over the top of my bait with one of the chaps in the canoe playing a banjo. You never quite know whats going to happen with a days fishing on the wye!
