Cold overnight so we expected a slow start. Lost 2 barbel late morning. Caught 5 chub to 5lb 6oz during the day. Barbel 9lb 10oz just as packing up around 5.45pm. All fish caught on 3 or 4 ledgered elips pellets over loose fed pellets. Enjoyed the day. Thanks to Denise and Tony at the Jovial Colliers in Lydbrook for the bed and breakfast, excellent as usual!

What a change in conditions from last week, cold and wet! fished quite well all morning but no takers. SK was coarse fishing and managed to find some barbel at the bottom of the beat. We ended up with a couple and a bag of chub before the weather got the better of us.

Arrived to find the river running clear with water temperature at 7 degrees. Slow start fish, coming on around dinner time, had two barbel in quick succession weighing 9lb 14oz and just under 7lb. All quiet until dusk - two more fish around 9lb and one missed. Nice stretch of water and had a nice chat with Don. Thanks all at the WUF.

I was fishing for Pike and did not have any action. No runs at all. I enjoyed the day and look forward to having another day at Courtfield next season. The conditions were very bright which did not help. Locating Pike in March is often rather hit or miss.

This was the second trip within a week or so first trip on the cold side but, managed two great chub over 5lbs and a pike over 6lbs for a mornings fishing.

Ended up with just the one chub of about 3 lbs after losing a couple of barbel in quick succession - checking the hook I discovered the point was damaged.

Had the beat to myself but spent whole day lounging in gloriously sunny Legg Meadow, totally untroubled by any registration of interest from barbel or chub. A foggy start, burned off by a sun blazing in a cloudless sky was NOT forecast and seemed not to be appreciated by the fish. They didn't switch on until the sun switched off, leaving only enough time to hook a couple of barbel (one landed, 7lb). Then I fluked a big fish which tried to pull in a feeder rod "parked" down the near margin, while I packed away the main rod and tidied the bait boxes. It was still carrying two halibut pellets which had been on the hair rig for two hours and looked very anaemic. After a doughty battle it took the scales to 11lb 1oz, equalling a Wye PB. Like to think I deserved the biggie, for persevering, but maybe not! Anyway I'm counting it, as part of another memorable Wye day. Courtfield stretch very attractive, with ample swims to investigate.

A couple of decent barbel caught and a couple lost. Very pleased given the time of year. Next trip will be in June. I hope to have as good a season this year as I did last!
