Arrived with really easy directions to a really lovely stretch of water, first time on this beat.
Met Don and he said we would struggle today as the river was full of really cold mountain water being washed down. Boy was he right, not one touch or pull all day. Len went piking in the woods later and had a pike on spinner approx 12lb and that was that. We couldnt really rove about as the banks were quite dangerous after the weeks before down pour which Don said the river was nearly up to top of banks. Apart from a fishless day bar one this beat is I think one of the best looking ones weve been on and looking at the reports if you want a Wye double this is the place. Cant wait to return next year.
We also met really nice chap from Fleet who caught one barbel. Nice to put faces to the reports we read.

First time to fish the Wye and on arrival flow was very strong, the area must have had heavy rain and so found it difficult to fish. Lots of debris, even a tree at 1 point, great looking river and scenery though. Unfortunately no fish, going to come back on a colder day with hopefully less flow

I fished with halibut pellets in the deep water at the top end of the beat, and caught 3 barbel. First cast at 9.30am produced a 10lb-07oz! This was followed at 14.00 by a 8lb-08oz. Just as the light was going, another beauty of 9lb-04oz rounded off a great day. All the fish in superb condition.

Pleasant day with river falling a little to about +14". Conditions seemed perfect and Don did his best to put us on the fish but the cooling water seemed to conspire against us and despite deliberate tactics of baiting and not baiting spots whilst trying a range of bait options in deep and shallow water, we struggled to find the fish during daylight. Nevertheless, sticking it out towards dark did result in one chubby barbel of about 7lbs and a pretty chub going about 4lbs.
Frankly, the fish did not play their part, took no account of all our planning and preparation and ignored the best meats and pellets money can buy. Someone should speak to them about their attitude! Who's in charge?
Thanks WUF - another better option than working.

Hard day, very snaggy.
1 barbel of about 3lb 8oz, fished the wood stretch and probably should have fished the deeper meadow section...but in my defence the water was still at 10 degrees so the shallower section should have fished well, still...never mind, I will be back.

Had a nice day on the Courtfield beat with lots of sun but the river was high and fast and the only catch was two eels.
One was about 3lb though, he had tried to tack my half Mackerel dead bait on my pike rod, but spat it out just before landing.
Will have another go when the river is lower. I always catch Barbel when fishing on the Wye. I knew they were there, just could not get them to feed that day.
