One barbel lost, and only three chub caught. Slow day but finally picked up in last 2 hours with plenty of knocks and fish showing. The banks are a little treacherous. The bailiff is a friendly and a pleasure to chat to.

This stretch has deep water under the near bank and is relatively easy to fish. The Bailiff met us early and was very freindly and helpful. I fancied a few hours on the float for a change and caught lots of chub to about a pound and a half on small cubes of meat before hooking a big fish which I eventually lost in a snag! Bites were hard to come by in the bright sun, but we eventually landed 5 Barbel to 8llb 10oz on meat and boilies.
The landowner on the other bank decided to drive a digger up the river to extract stone, much to the dismay of my mate!
We enjoyed this beat and look forward to returning soon.....

First time on this beat, very quite with easy access. Could have done with another couple of feet on water level(Or my landing net handle)!. Lost a fish each in the morning. Conditions were excellent at first but after midday bright sunshine
and very hot, far from ideal, and bites hard to come by. Had a visit from the game keeper around tea time,( didn't get your
name, apologies for that) but enjoyed our chat, pleased to meet you. As the sun went off the water we thought the last couple of hours would produce, however, several "knocks" but only two developed into anything substantial and both resulted in hook pulls!!. A wide range of baits tried including corn, pellet, various flavoured meats, cheese paste, boilies and trotted bread, most to no avail, only takes were on meat and pellet. Over all result, four fish lost one Eel landed, a nice day on the river but a tough day's fishing, lets get home and watch the cricket, --------- Oh dear!!!

Didn't enjoy this beat. Opposite bank was crowded and it's very overgrown all along the beat. fishing upstream of the tree line is not worth it as impossible to cast or get to bank.
Fished like a berk which might have clouded my day.
If you come here bring a strimmer!!!

River was swollen and chocolate coloured ( just how we like it! ) up 5/6 foot but was falling throughout the day, few swims to access but had a thoroughly enjoyable day! Caught consistently all day from the 3 swims with good access but left early as the wye had given us enough and didn’t want to be greedy! All fish caught on feeder with pellets and fish meals. Beautiful stretch, full of fish and good catches to be had despite conditions that some would moan about. Thank you WUF

Talk about a game of two halves!!
Having arrived in the dark and it being pouring with rain I plonked myself in the first swim at the end of the tree line path, I got myself sorted , brolley up and cast in quite close in just to experiment , I continued with meat on a size 10 as I did ok on at Fownhope 5 , I then reached for my phone and with that my rod arched over and I was caught totally off guard , I connected with a Barbel but the clever thing shed the hook. Nothing more in same area for half an hour so I tried mid river , within seconds rod went again , another Barbel, a slip on the mud and another hook shed, I quickly re cast and another quick bite , connection and shed hook!! I chose to go up to 8 but no more bites , I moved down a swim then up a swim but just a few Chub taps , after 6 hours I finally scored a 3 1/2lb Chub, after a lovely conversation with the very nice Gamekeeper.
Then as rain had stopped I chose to make the trek to the hut end which amounted in another 3 1/2lb Chub but no Barbel, after an hour I chose to re trek back to first swim to 'bait and wait ', after 2 hours I banked an 8.12, then a 6.10, a 7.2, an Eel and just as dark a 6.12!!! Well chuffed!! No monsters but cracking fights and such beautiful colours on these exquisite animals, the day was saved , and to think I was going to eBay my gear at lunchtime and go home !
The Wye has quickly turned into my favourite river I have fished , the WUF have organised the fishing amazingly and securely , and the wildlife / beauty of this whole river is second to none , with Red Kites, Buzzards, Kingfishers and Herons entertaining me in my quiet periods .....these two sessions have been two of my favourites of my life , thank you WUF and please please can you move your river and these amazing Barbel to East Anglia !!
