A good day for fishing, bit of cloud cover, still a bit of colour in the water, decent push, mild, should have been a good day for a big catch. but just one barbel to show for it, roughly 9lb. Stuck with the feeder/pellet method which was probably a mistake as I ought to have tried meat etc . but it is called fishing, not catching, and is what keeps me coming back year after year. As always, a day out on the Wye beats all my other fishing expeditions hands-down. Will be back.

Weaher conditions a bit better than yesterday with at least some occasional cloud cover breaking up an otherwise very bright day. Cold easterly wind although not as strong as yesterday. River running lower and clearer than expected and it turned out to be a very tough day. Just one chub early (lost at the net)and the 2 chub followed by a barbel of around 6 lb on my last cast. Packed up at 7.45 PM

Barbel first cast and then nothing for the rest of the day. Very hot in the bright sunshine, but still an enjoyable day.

A very enjoyable day soaking in the autumn sunshine. I had a barbel first cast and then it all went very quiet until mid-afternoon, when I caught steadily until the end - mostly smaller fish, but a really enjoyable day. A few fishermen on the opposite bank, briefly, and no canoes at all. Thanks WUF for a great day.

River level on the way down. A warm, partly sunny day. We struggled in the early part of the day but eventually found a few barbel later on. Fished from 9am till 7pm.

We had an enjoyable days angling the river was above the Normal autumn levels and a little coloured and dropping. The morning session was good, pellets seem to be the only effective bait, midday sun bought a lull in the action, but the late afternoon and evening were much better, we finished the day off with a 14lb barbel!
There are 5 or 6 'comfortable' pegs on this stretch with other more challenging runs that need a rope. You will need robust gear if you are going to get these barbel out and a long landing landing net pole is a must.
PS if you have seen and rescued a 10 foot landing net floating through Ross or Monmouth please give it to a young angler who will look after it better than me.

Great days fishing on a perfect looking river. Although the weather was hot and sunny this did not put the fish off with bites and fish coming regularly throughout the day.
We all used the same method (feeder with hemp and pellet) and various types of pellet on the hook. Most popular on the day was spicy sausage they accounted for 3 of the 6 Barbel caught and both Chub. I hope to return to this picturesque stretch one day as I know now where to find the fish and at what distance they are, I feel I will catch a few more.

Ideally would have arrived earlier and left later but time constraints meant I only had the middle of the day. Fished two swims downstream from the middle entrance. The nearside gulley looks perfect. One bite, one small chub.

Fished middle section trying two swims. The first near the upper tree line and couldnt get a bite, moved dowstream to a lovely swim with some nice moving water and caught two barbel both just over 9lb.
River was very low so fishing was tough. Due to it being low canoeists became a pain as they were heading for the deeper water where I was fishing. One canoe decidied to deliberately beach right opposite me, one bloke got out beer in hand and decided to run with the canoe straight towards me, jumped in totally lost control and then got caught on my line which was only 1 rod length out, took the line half a mile down stream and then snapped it so they could free the canoe.
So, they were pissed, in control of a canoe that could put themselves and others at risk with zero sense of responsibility at all.
Having read the August report from WUF its obvious there is a problem and not much us anglers can do however it totally ruins your day when idiots with no rules are allowed to do as they please.
Back to the fishing, this is a great beat with good swims and good access.
WUF Note: We have forwarded this report to the EA (the Wye's Navigation Authority) who advise that incidents like this should be reported to their 0800 80 70 60 incident number with, if possible and if applicable, details of the company the canoe(s) was hired from.
