Well with the intention to christen my new ten foot three weight I've had for some time , saw the Ithon was fairly coloured at The Severn Arms bridge so mooched on to the Elan Valley , to catch up with some friends working at the visitors centre . . . Had a good look at the Afon Elan , which looked in super condition , and has fished well for small brownies this season . . .

Anyway heading back along the A44 towards Llanddewi , as wanted to see how this rod performed like with two heavy nymphs in tow !!

Well still up when I arrived at eleven ish, and coloured but perhaps clearing a little. Nice to get the new rod and french leader rig a bash . . .

Ha ha was surprised to get one on after twenty mins , and a perfectly formed little grayling, only six inches but alas rod christened , happy days!!!!

Bimbled up stream, from the bankside most of the time , working my team of two , pink shrimp and squirmy wormy . Again, like the Arrow , some serious bank erosion , but also some meander changes noticable to this section , stayed on terra ferma for the majority of the two hours I was there , bingo and another take , happy with the coloured indicator section , again a grayling against all odds , took the squirmy wormy , about ten inches , slipped back in , sorted.

An enjoyable session, if a bit frustrating due to rainfall last night , this will be lovely by Sunday I should imagine , and very fishable then !!! Still enjoyable and a good blast of fresh air , nice to get the french leader going with the new rod , lovely jubbly !!!! And two bonus grayling which made my day on what looked an out if sorts river !!!! Off home and a large glass of something medicinal me thinks !!!!!

River level ok but still too Willy Wonka from the rain. Would be great if a method for obtaining info on clarity as well as levels. Few casts and then called it. Nice river though. Would be idyllic on a perfect summers eve.

Well gave the Llandewi beat of the Ithon a bash this morning , looking reasonable on the gauge map, reading 0.384 so that could be fished very nicely with nymphs . . .

My prediction was bang on !!! Got there at ten bimbled down to the rough start of the beat and river was pushing through at a fair old pace but clear with that usual Ithon brown tinge . . .

Got going with a single eighteen home tied tungsten nymph , and had success not from grayling but very feisty eight to ten inch trout , lovely condition and slipped back in for their coital activities to commence !!!!!!!

Good fun and only had one twenty minute downpour , after that some nice sun , did try a couple of different dries , Adam's and CDC and Elk but no takers in some lovely streamy water . . . Back to the nymphs and three of my tyings were successful , must be the bit of bright red and pink.in them perhaps. . . . Seven brownies to the net unfortunately no ladies today but river looking superb , will be back very soon when this weather settles down a bit , a fun three hours spot on !!!!

First visit this year to Llanddewi and found plenty of water. The Llanddewi gauge was showing around 0.3 and falling.
Started to clear in the couple of hours I fished but should be perfect in the next couple of days. 8 Trout 6 to 10 inches nymphing with french leader.

Fine sunny day with 0.17m on the gauge, and running perfectly for dry fly. Trout are now showing in the riffles. All trout were small and taken on a Kite's Imperial, which is ideal for this time of year. Some stock fencing is detached and hanging due to the earlier floods. Access is still good but a tad trickier than was previously possible.

River at a good height (0.19 at llandewi), water v clear. Beautiful sunny day. Fished the bottom 2/3 of the beat. 3 trout to the net on a hares ear fished on a French leader. Largest just over a pound. Surprisingly lots of space for casting, but means that spooking is easily done.
