14 x 4-12 inch fish plus a good few salmon parr. Mostly on CDC dries and the odd nymph from faster water, fish rising in every pool, great afternoon fishing.

First time on this beat and was impressed. Very nice area to fish. Now that's out the way to the fishing.. rain, sunshine, then the most horrendous downstream wind made my three weight almost impossible to use. 6 of the eight fish came in the first hour to size 18 f -fly then the wind strengthened. As I could not turn my fly over nymphed heads of pools picking off another two and decided to call it a day. Lovely beat, shame wind ruined catch return.

Day 3 of 4 day trip and it was cold and blowing a gale over the Whittern beat. I tempted two nice 12" WBT up to my dry but otherwise a difficult and disheartening fish. Spent most time avoiding a hook in the face and untangling wind knots.

Fished this beat from 11 til 3.30 in bright hot sun but with a pleasant but annoying downstream breeze making casting light line a bit tricky. Started at the all weather parking spot and fished a small PTN as surprisingly not much fly life and nothing rising. Got into my first fish almost straight away and managed another two before heading back to the van, not quite making it to the very top of the beat. I got the distinct impression I was leaving just as I should of been starting but by the time I'd trudged all the way back I was parched. More like the middle of June than April.

Fished for about 4 hours in late morning/early afternoon. The river was fairly low and clear and still quite cold despite it being a mild sunny day. Very few flies about and no fish were seen rising. 3 trout caught short line nymphing, the biggest about 10-11 inches.

Having been successful on this beat earlier in the season I was temped to return. However, water levels were well down and I saw very little fish activity. Missed one take on a dry fly. Saw a few small trout in the deeper pools but they were easily spooked. Wildlife (dipper, kingfisher, yellow wagtail etc) in abundance so a lovely day nevertheless!

A three hour evening session produced 7 wbt. Started with a single PTN then changed to a duo set-up when I noticed a few fish rising. Still, didn't catch any on the dry, all taken on the suspended nymph. Vegetation growth now making access hard work. Fished between the two bridges and packed up due to failing light and the fact that I didn't want to hook one of the dozen or so bats that were swarming around!

Fished 5-10pm. Very few fish rising. Fish 6-8 inches most on bead head pheasant tail nymph with a few taking a dark klink. Clouds of medium olives and one or two mayflies still about. Waited for an evening rise but it never occurred.

The Titley gauge on the Arrow was reading 0.35m when we started and the river was up and coloured. The fish caught were 6" and 8" and were taken on weighted nymphs in riffles.

A trickle of mayfly and occasional rise from a salmon parr of which we caught three and that was it. River looked good when we arrived but an hour later the heavens opened and finished the fishing for the day. There are two trees opposite each other that have collapsed together half way up the bottom stretch making it very difficult to get past.
From the all weather parking I found that it was easier to go through the gate on the left just over the bridge and then under the bridge arch.
