Beat:Aberbwtran

Fishing:Trout (River)

No. of Anglers:1

Fished from 13:00 to 16:00 with the river level showing 0.35 at Abernant.
The low water level made life slightly easier as some of the bedrock was exposed making wading much safer!
3 of the Grayling all around 12 inches caught at the bottom of the beat on a pink shrimp and 1 in the top pool on a para adams.
The single Trout also took the shrimp pattern.

Caught on mix of french leader and dry fly, last two fish rising firmly to a Parachute Adams. Had to leave at 2pm to drive home at which point the fishing for the afternoon was looking promising despite gathering storm clouds. The river was at a good height with a slight tinge from rain the night before. Previous day on the Cammarch Hotel beat brought ten grayling to similar methods but in much lower water.

River height perfect but absolutely freezing No fish rising at all. Caught one brownie around 12” long on nymph at the end of the pool. Take care on this beat especially after the pool as it is mainly bedrock and very slippery as I found out today with a little water up my sleeves after slipping over
Still my favourite beat even though it’s a bit of a hike

Lovely spot but today conditions very challenging due to high levels, fast flow, and very cold. Drew a blank with weighted nymphs - maybe not heavy enough for these conditions.

Beautiful spring day at Aberbwtran, just 1 10" wbt which grabbed an Endricks spider with a tungsten bead fished under a March Brown. A few sporadic hatches but nothing rising yet,

I’ll be honest , I was told to fish for the table today since a meal, which would benefit from a nice grayling , was to be prepared. I chose Aberbwtran because I know there are some decent fish there and it is one of the beats that has a 2 fish bag. Always difficult and really tricky wading but a really lovely place. First one, 16 inches from the big pool to a barbless hares ear nymph and the other two 10 and 12 inches to a rusty Klinkhammer at bottom of the beat. Only took one home!

First time on the Irfon and found the wading at the bottom end challenging! Water up a bit and some colour,0.5 on the Abernant gauge. Rained heavily and winds gusting around 20 mph didn't help. All fish came from the tail of the top pool Trout 8 and 12 inches and a very nice Grayling of 16 inches.

What looked a double figure Salmon jumped in the top pool as I was leaving.
