Fished from 8:30 to 2:30 solely on the dry fly. Overcast conditions were perfect but rain and wind gusts made it tough at times. Fish were rising here and there and I made the most of that netting 7 brownies all under a 1lb, lost a couple more before the net and missed a few due to watching the wildlife. Water level was low but seemed clear and clean. I do enjoy this beat.

Water levels were low so only 200m north of the bridge was explored before turning back.

South of the bridge was more promising with a few fish rising before the storm. Connected with three but they broke away before the net.

The beat is wild, personally I loved it when I could get in but no idea how we would have moved up if the river was higher since there are many deep pool sections and absolutely no management of the access points. The map says there are gates but these must be hidden under the brambles. Don't wear waders that you wouldn't mind getting a hole in.

Been a while since my last visit, access generally good, although at this time of year, the undergrowth remains jungle like.
Water not as clear as my last visit, a milky tinge which suggested something other than soil/mud creating the colour.
No sign of any hatch and didn’t see a single rise all day. I did stoically try a dry fly on numerous spots but to no avail - shame as I always like to get at least one fish on a dry.
Had an encouraging start, with a couple of grayling and a trout, caught in the spots where they’re supposed to be but strangely I failed to find more, which was a surprise with the grayling as, from earlier reports, it sounds like there are plenty there.
All fish caught on nymphs/wet flies, either small gold headed ptn and a treacle parkin.
The lack of catching seemed to coincide with a spell of losing flies to the river gods. However, that is all part of fishing these smaller, tighter beats.

1 Trout, 2 Grayling
