Warm, overcast with bursts of sunshine, slight breeze but fine for cast control.
Various fly types on the water, but trout rising to take yellow may duns. Hatches were spasmodic but when on, trout seen to leap into the air to take them. Takes were often aggressive and all fish caught and more lost, were fishing a dun imitation.

Fished B4. Tough going with the current low river conditions, however, managed two barbel and lost another with scaled down feeder tactics and small hookbaits.

The river levels were good and on arrival for an evening ticket the trout were rising to a mayfly hatch. Walked to the bottom of the beat to commence fishing. Three trout on a dry mayfly pattern. The rain then came and a cold wind seemed to slow thing down. Changed to a PT nymph and when fished in the faster waters with a quick retrieve brought bite after bite. A further three before the heavy rains came. Best fish around 8 inches but others around 4 inches.
Beautiful stretch and good access to the water. Value for money and will be going back.

Favourable conditions although lower level than expected, fish taken on meat with feeder and bread on the float from the wooded section and the field below the woods, unfortunately the Barbel failed to show. Have fond memories of Fownhope but at 74 I think that is my last "Up and over".
