Arrived on a very windy morning to find 2 anglers fishing where we wished to fish. A quick chat with WUF to establish we had the beat booked. Then spoke to them, a bloke in the pub had told them it was free fishing! Which to those of us that know how busy Caradoc can get with the general public swimming, sunbathing, paddle boarding, etc. when the weathers nice, is a reasonable mistake. They promptly left to find somewhere else. Started fishing but the barbel weren’t cooperating and the chub not much better

River at good level and neither clouded or perfectly clear. Weather was cooler than the previous days sweltering heat and there was a brisk wind. One of us fished the deeper water above the island and one the faster water below the rapids. Variety of baits used from meat to boilies and most fish were caught using smaller 10 or 12mm baits, all on lead/feeder.

No sign of any barbel but it is early in the season and we had a cold spring and early summer so spawning may have been delayed.
Ps " other "was an eel.

All chub caught with static baits apart from 2 on rolled meat. All barbel caught on the float. 3 barbel lost through hook pulls. 1 eel caught on meat. Lots of barbel rolling and topping in the swim. Cleaning off after spawning? Great days fishing on a well managed stretch of the river Wye.
