Overcast and cooler than recently (although it warmed up in the afternoon), grainy tinge of colour to the water, 19 degree water temp, and reasonable flow despite the 0.16 RoW level reading. Started down the bottom trying to catch a barbel in the first hour, one of us using pellet on the float, the other boillie and bag across to the trees. Only one chub each. Swapped to meat over pellet or hemp on the float and we both had 100lb or so in 4 hours. Moved further up to try for a barbel where there were less chub but with a few more chub but no barbel. Vast majority of the chub in the 3 to 4lb bracket and great to catch on the float.

a lovely stretch and plenty to choose from. Chub predominant, on meat and pellet. Sat it out with 2 14mm pellets on the hair, which had the effect of slowing down the chub, but alas no barbel.....at least not in the swims or not feeding.

We fished the swim right next to the hut. Last year we tried from the centre of the woods and had great success but didn't fancy the hill of death this time!

An abundance of Chub available trotting, had around 15 in 1-2 hours to 3lb but switched to the feeder and the first Barbel was a midday and at 10lb 4oz I was chuffed. My mate lost a decent one later in the afternoon and they came on the feed again well at dusk where I caught a further 5 more barbel between 6-8lb.

All caught on a mixture of boilie, pellet and meat.

Banks are busier than other stretches with dog walkers, hikers etc but not an issue tbh.

Evening - 3 fish to 14 inches. A few rises to something like a smut; tiny Klinkhamer size 18 worked a bit. Then a decent rise possibly to small sedges at about 9pm, hard to imitate.
