River a little coloured after rain the day before and a cool breeze did not help . Unfortunately we had a blank day.

Beat:Ty Newydd

Fishing:Trout (River)

No. of Anglers:1

I’d fished Ty Newydd on Monday. Twenty four hours of showers made quite a difference. The river was flowing more swiftly and carrying some colour but perfectly fishable. Started mid afternoon with almost nothing showing on the surface . Went through the normal repertoire of nymphs, duo and spiders with no success. Whilst taking a break by the hut I saw one fish feeding close to the boards. Tied on a tiny Griffiths Gnat which was immediately taken. The same fly consistently brought trout to the surface in the wide flats at the bottom of the beat. Seven came to the net, all excellent fish up to a pound and a half. Numerous refusals and one or two “self released”. The sort of evening I dream of but rarely happens.

I caught another little browny at 5 inches but my 9 year old son caught his first wbt at 8 inches ,amazing, fished from 7pm until 9pm, mosquitos eating my arms through clothing ,bad smell coming from some pumping going on within what I thought was old railyard on map, smells like sewage, although stream is crystal clear with plenty of life, hope whatever it is does not make its way to stream

2 trout caught on a mayfly, both returned to the river. Conditions good with plenty of mayfly present. Good stretches of the river that were easily accessible.

A day makes such a difference, expecting great things on these two beats,we arrived to find fly life limited and almost no fish rising. Our novice again caught the biggest brownie of the day at 12ins.
All the fish were caught on nymphs.

The day's fishing on this beat was slow, although two large fish were lost due to weak droppers on a factory made leader. To our surprise several expletives were heard echoing up the river by the mildest mannered of the gang.
