Spent a good 4 or 5 hours fishing around the far shore. No luck with spinning. No fish seen with fair weather.

Guided a gentleman – it was his first time fishing this beat. A very cold, strong NW wind all day – we did see an impressive MB hatch around 1pm, but the fish didn't switch onto them. My client managed 2 trout (both approx. 3/4lb) swinging spiders.

Targeted salmon most of the day as water level and salmon pools looked ideal should there have been any fish around. Overcast conditions with some showers. Switch rod used. Very good beat despite no fish on this occasion.

River full after recent storms making access to far back runs difficult, particularly with gusting winds up to 30mph and heavy rain showers.
Use of a trout spey rod (3 wt.) proved successful in these harsh conditions as it was able to punch through wind and spey technique enabled access to far bank pools and tails. Successful flies were nymphs (PTN-type). Two fish at same time at top end of beat in the pocket water (difficult wading area).

Nice spot for a few hours, blanked but wasn’t there long as short on time. Saw plenty of fish rising and good hatch despite wind and rain, few takes but none stuck.

Caught two off the top in the early afternoon - some scattered hatches of LDO, also some grannom. Should have caught a few more really - at least 10 takes and nearly all on dries,. A couple bumped off but I missed quite a few - maybe my fingers were too cold, it was really wintery weather with fierce northerly gusts at times! Had a nice chat with one of the farmers, and despite the cold snap lovely to see spring blooming on the river. Saw lots of birdlife - a dipper doing it's own nymphing wading ahead of me one run, two kingfishers dancing around, grey wagtails probing the bankside stones, a goosander and of course the pantomime villain - a cormorant! Suddenly saw the first swallows of the year hawking straight past me later in the afternoon and a sand martin too - that warmed the cockles again (and the heated car seat on the way home, the luxury of modern tech)!
