A productive two hours fishing which resulted in one very nice wbt. I also had three other takes but failed to catch any of them. There were a few rises seen.

Very early season up there, even the Primroses were not fully out...Not a fish or fly was moving until early afternoon, when the weather warmed a touch. There was a very brief hatch of small Olives and in one bright corner of a pool a few fish rose.
Had two trout on a small grey comparadun. A difficult but very rewarding day. Many Thanks. LB.

Spent a few hours on the Aberfan stretch of the Taff. Arrived at 1.00pm hoping to find hatch of LDO, MB's and therefore rising fish. Rod was rigged up with size 12 parachute Adams, my 'go to' dry for this time of year. Walked the banks looking for risers - and found some. Landed 6 nice fish, with each one spotted and targeted carefully with the dry. All in mint condition. Nothing small, every one in 14 - 16 inch range and very strong. Missed, pricked and lost many more. Hatch and rise over by 3.00pm. Could have caught more by fishing nymphs blind, but what fun is that compared to a take off the surface!

One trout of about 1lb (released) taken on a March brown. Caught at about noon during an intense hatch of March browns and Large Dark Olives, the only hatch of the day. The weather was varied - a persistent cold wind.
Really enjoyed the fishing, although the wading was hard work. Worth a mention perhaps on the beat description? The depth of the water in particular was challenging.

Good stretch of the river, especially island bend. Water clear after rain, very brief hatch for 10 minutes or less, mostly sunny day, light wind.

Water very clear. Saw 4 Browns over fishing the beat X 2. Very nervy and difficult to get close without spooking them into disappearing into the un-accessible stretches. Very overgrown.

Thought it might be of interest to record that at last the Usk trout seem to be looking up! Fished 10-4 p.m. with the Brecon guage at 11-12" and the river running clear but still at 6 deg C. It wasn't too windy from mid-late morning either and quite sunny at times, which probably explains why I witnessed some Grannom, albeit not yet many, in several hatches between 10 and 1 p.m. Fish were seen rising to and sometimes clearly missing these! Add to these from around midday, a respectable number of March Browns and later some LDOs, and there was clearly enough fly to get fish rising at last. Although I had one fish on a Grannom pupa emerger, the majority of the rest were taken on a March Brown Duck's Dun. With about half of the fish of 15-16", it all made for a rewarding day to be on the river. All fish returned.

I thought river in near perfect condition, lovely day, lots of insect activity (for the time of year) including some large up-wings which to me looked like mayflies with large sail like wings, long tails, and flopping about on the water in classic fashion. Only issue - NO FISH! Nothing caught and not a sign of anything seen despite both careful observation and wading in looking for disturbed fish shooting off.

Didn't arrive till 2pm. By 2.30 had a nice 15 inch trout in the net. Caught on downstream beaded wet. Fished on till seven sadly nothing more. It's a lovely beat but wading is tough a staff is essential I think.

River high after rain making fishing almost impossible. Found two fish in a little corner - 1 to nymph (6") - 1 to dry fly (14"). Large hatch of March Browns mode afternoon.
