The weather was dry, the temperature around 17c. I set off in chest waders and a short sleeved shirt in search of a grayling. I was informed by locals that access on to the right hand side of the river was not very good and nobody knew if you could walk across fields to enter on to the river. From the Bell Inn, cross the bridge and on your right hand side of the road is a stile leading on to a public foot path. You need to walk at least 200m before the river is accessible. The river was was running fairly fast but wading with care was possible. After fishing various pools and fast waters, I managed to catch my very first and only Grayling of about 20cm on a Pink Shrimp in fast water by letting my fly bumble its way down stream, after first casting across and upstream.
Can't wait to return later on in the year to try my luck in an outstanding area of the country.

A nice day and a great spot, using both fly and spinner, but neither sight nor sound of any fish. Still worth it.

River had a nice colour and pace to it. Was kept busy with 13 chub to 5lb on pellet. Forgot how far it was back to the car from pumping station but enjoyed the walk after the days fishing.

Had a lovely and very sociable day on the riverbank at the kind (as ever) invitation of owner. River was at 0.9m, reasonable colour but rising slowly. Saw approximately 8 salmon on the day, all runners I suspect.
They completely ignored the offerings of 6 competent salmon anglers till the curtain came down on another season frustratingly soon. Just 2 feisty 1lb trout caught. Best wishes to every one. See you next year.

Unusually, hard days fishing. Fished for 8 hrs, 1 rainbow, 1.5 lbs caught on pop up worm. Also tried bubble spinner and lures. Plenty of fish on surface but too far out for fly fishing off the bank. Weather - showers, heavy at times but warm for autumn.

Tough day on a great looking beat. We started on the upper beat on the first peg by the orchard, It looked fantastic, good colour, good level, pushing through a bit though. Stayed there for a couple of hours, to our amazement nothing caught. We moved upstream into the woods and found a couple of fishable areas. G W caught 2 chub about 4lb each, K W caught 1 chub about 3lb. We moved back down to the orchard and K W caught 1 more chub, about 3lb.
There are not too many pegs on the upper stretch. Next visit I will go to the lower beat and will hopefully do better. Lovely beat, fantastic wildlife.
