Fished lower stretch, mainly in the shade, but mid-day hours (left at 6 pm). River fairly low but running fast, masses of minnows in the shallows. one trout seen below the water and three or four rises, but our small brown floaters did not tempt them. A Heron spotted several times. No catch but nevertheless a great day out on a beautiful stretch of river. Will come again (in May!)

As previous day on Courtfield the river was too low and the weather too hot, extremely difficult especially with the numbers of canoes and swimmers!! Fished the Saturday and Sunday morning for 1 chub about 3lb. It was good to meet Rudi and break the day chatting about fishing. He was very helpful, a really nice chap!!

First visit to The Creel. Lovely beat with a variety of water although we didn't get a look at the stretch with the campers as it looked a bit busy.
Bright sunshine and red hot all day made for hard work. Between us we managed 8 chub to 4lb and one small barbel.

After a slow day at Middle Hill Court the day before we were rewarded with a spectacular days fishing at Foy Bridge. The river was very low and clear and after a few bites in the morning on feeder tactics and one barbel of 4lb 8oz we decided that wading and trotting would be a better approach. We indulged in some purist fishing, trotting floating crust from a centre-pin down the centre of the river. A magical three hours resulted in 25 Chub between 3lb and 4lb 8oz. Beautifu, bronze, lean fish, the River Wye at its very best. I understand that some people have complained about the WUF prices! This I cannot fathom, this was probably the best £10 I have ever spent! Thanks again WUF.

No fish taken. Mostly small brown trout with a couple of larger fish to about 9/10 inches - all returned. Includes some small salmon parr. Most successful methods: small bead nymphs fished upstream and dry fly black spinner pattern.
Did not fish early or late. Lovely spot and great day out with entertainment at lunch from the wedding party - photos on the bridge etc. One of our anglers had his fishing disturbed by dogs and people swimming in the river and he left a message on the Estate Office phone. He has received a very helpful reply and apology. Apparently, dogs on Estate land should be kept on a lead and walked on the designated footpath which is not along the river bank.

Extremely hot day so realistically, we didn't expect to catch any salmon, rather just enjoy the river. One chub around a pound decided to surprise us by latching on to the fly. River needs some fresh water to stir things up a little. Nice to see so much fry around the margins.

Another very hot but enjoyable day on the Wye.
We walked the river first to check out swims and try to spot fish. Once again, my friend saw some barbel first which were cleaning themselves off on a rocky shallow swim so we made that our main target area. We made a route through the vegetation to get slightly upstream of them and fished 10mm pellets with pellet loose feed via catapult. We had four barbel and a chub during the afternoon but we felt they were not feeding very well in the bright conditions.
We gave the swim a rest and tried the croy for a short while but no joy there, just chub knocks.
We returned to the previous swim and in the last hour before dusk we had six more barbel again sharing one rod taking turns between us. Checking your rig was not stuck in the rocks was important, a gentle lift up to make sure after each cast.
This stretch does have enough swims we thought. We travel light and sit on unhooking mats. The walk is short but does have a steep climb back to the car which is always easier when you have had a good day.
10 Barbel, 2 Chub
