Weather overcast and mild, and surprisingly good flow and colour, with a 14 degree water temp. However with bright skies in the afternoon we needed to do our best work in the morning. Barbel from 3 to 9.06 caught mostly on bomb and pellet, chub to 4.08 on gb feeder meat or pellet. Sounds like a brill day for two anglers? Problem was I had all the chub (and the eel) and he had all the barbel! With this being our first day on the beat we picked two pairs of swims in the second half of the beat and fished one area each so we could move to where the fish were coming from. By the time I'd fished two areas and could only catch snags and moved above Steve, he had stopped catching barbel and had one in the afternoon during which time I had 6 chub (moral victory? He had one more after I left so a great day for him and I took a right barbel gubbin' but a decent day nevertheless.

Conditions should have been perfect for bringing trout to the surface: warm late-afternoon sunshine, plenty going on just above the water. I tried daddy longlegs, but they weren't interested, and by dusk there was little evidence that they interested in anything else either. I refuse to accept that such a beautiful stretch of river contains no fish. Does any kind sole have a word of advice?
Nil return....

Level slightly too high but enjoyed my fishing. Disturbed one fish that leapt alongside my fly. Otherwise no sightings.

Another visit to the glorious Towy valley. Hoping for a silver tourist but we had to be content with their brown cousins. Given that we only fished seriously for trout for about 5 hours each 22 fish seems a more than decent return …. And just as many came off for LDCR! Most were feisty 7-9 inchers but James found a pod of 14” era and I had a 16” er …. Thought it was a sewin when I first saw it. The wild life on this beat is stunning… kites buzzards sparrow hawk and owl all seen… wading is easy and there is excellent access. What more could we ask for? A few club members turned up to fish in the evening but no problems at all, very friendly.

First time out here and opted for the middle parking spot for starters. Wasnt very clear to me where the lower was ,only spot seemed to be at a gated field entrance and could have given a problem as was in my VW van.
Parking at middle is just fine. Didnt have time to investigate upper parking.
River adjacent to parking seemed a fast chute of water beyond barbed wire and heavy brush so started at the end of the wood just upstream. Couple of good looking runs there . Nothing really doing on top , just the odd fly on the go and one or two fish showing erraticly. Opted for my late season favourite, a daddy long legs but they werent really on it,just a few splash and dash rises, fished through some lovely water too.
Found the path through the wood adjacent to the river ( theres a stile in to the wood at the bottom corner of the wood btw ) and wandered quite aways upstream. Some fab water along there but sadly v v difficult to get down too , v v steep and heavily wooded banks.
All in all it was a lovely walk there through the woods on an indian summers day!
Sat it out in the evening back down at the end of the wood hoping for some spinner/sedge but no luck, just a lovely sunset upstream.
If you a right hand caster (like me ) I would advise being on your game there with the backhand or spey casting!
Found my wading staff to be invaluable too.
