Hatches of LDO and MB between 12-2, short and frantic feeding spells. Half a dozen rises on a hatching olive dry and two fish landed, frustratingly the biggest ones came off! Pretty quiet in the afternoon, a few pulls on nymphs but nothing else.

River level within normal range and falling. A cold start to the day after an overnight frost. Little surface activity seen until a small hatch around midday. One of the trout was a healthy 16", caught on a generic sedge cdc emerger pattern (barbless), and returned. The other fish were between 6" and 8". A beautiful beat at this time of year - bluebells, primroses, wood anemone, and lots of cuckooflower which I ate happily with my cheese roll! And I saw a sandpiper flying low upriver. A lovely day (1000hrs to 1630hrs).

A great day, light winds, warm and good river levels. Caught the first couple of fish on nymphs then a steady hatch of LDO and march browns kept the fish looking up all day. Fish were rising throughout the beat and most were caught on a size 14 CDC quill shuttlecock. All good size fish, biggest around 2.5lb

I thought it might be a bit early and it was...
Mid April is about when the river starts to wake up, os it was worth a look.
No signs of fish at all, but the insects were just starting to move, was suprised to see a few small Olives hatching around
mid-day, not quite enough to get the trout going.
It won't be long though a few more nights without frost and the trout will start to move.
An enjoyable day all the same.

We were fishing the beat with droppers and euronymphing. Great weather and some minor hatches and rises.
Caught a couple of 40cm trouts with others being in the 20-25 cm size.
Beautiful beat and part of the river
