River high but fishable, despite the wind & rain, until lightning, mid-afternoon. No fish.

This should have been a wash-off, with Craig Llyn falls roaring so loud you could hear them from the A470, and the river two feet over its banks. But I was tired of driving, and the eddies & creases in the margins looked fishable, so I cracked on. Blank all morning. Then the sun came out round 12 noon, and I found a pod of grayling, sheltering from the torrent, in the side channel behind the island. Two decent fish in two casts (one of around 40cm, maybe two and a half pounds): heavy pink shrimp Czech nymph. A couple more takes in the next half hour, but no fish on. Then they were gone, and that was it for the day. And that was more than enough.

One really nice grayling caught of 16". I estimated it at around the 2lb mark. Beautiful fish. Caught on a heavy pheasant tail nymph tied on a jig hook. Couldn't seem to tempt anything else. Lower beat seems to hold more grayling than the upper.

Cold, waters raised. Hooked two grayling, none landed, barbless hook nymph! Not much open space to cast so wadding the only solution. Good day anyway.

Knew river was high but thought I'd still give it a try. River was far to high and had flooded in a few places so give up after a couple of hours. I will be back though.

3 x grayling 10-11 inches, 2 x out of season trout 11-12 inches, trotting. Marginal fishing, in more ways than one. With 2 foot 6 inches on the gauge and raining heavily, I'm not sure why I try things like this. Friends will say, because I have nothing better to do. The rain kept falling, river went on rising, fish eventually switched off and I went home at lunchtime. Abernant, on reflection, might have been a better bet today.

This stretch of water was lovely to fish. We used various flies through the day. A single grayling (+- 10 inches) fell to a pheasant tail nymph. We had a lovely day and will return.

River was in flood with considerable debris collecting on line soon after bait had settled. No fish to either angler I'm afraid. Still, a superb day out in a wonderful location. A few days without rain and I'm sure it will fish well.

We had a fantastic days fishing on The Leen, thank you. I think that the grayling population is very good due to the massive amount of small fish we caught (2 inches). However, I do think that the adult fish are not there in numbers, but the ones that are there, are very large.
We started fishing at the upper weir limit and covered the whole stretch, then returned to the upper half later in the day as we blanked in the lower section. I found some fish mid morning, caught 2 and lost one. My fishing partner was fishing just down stream and he had one at the same time. I found some fish later in the day and had 4 more grayling, one of these fish was a re capture as it had a split mouth from the scissors along (fully healed).
The weights were : 1.14lb, 1.15lb, 2lb, 2.08lb, 2 fish unknown, 2.09lb, 2.095 lb (caught twice).
I think the cormorants are having a good feast in this stretch and after talking to the farmer this was confirmed.
All in all, a superb, beautiful stretch of river that we thoroughly enjoyed fishing. I hope the lovely large ladies of the stream survive and put a smile on more anglers faces.
