First time on this beat of the Lugg, trip was curtailed due to late arrival because of road closures in the local area and having to get back for baby grandson duties. So, just a quick recce of this interesting stretch of water, still carrying the milky grey colour. No fish but will definitely return early next season. Absolutely beautiful setting.

Only fished the field below the bridge for 1 hour max. At 80 years old I'm finding wild streams too much of challenge and could be 'throwing in' my waders! 1 trout on nymph lovely 9 incher. Saw a heron and 2 kingfishers. Local said there were mink also there.
Parked just up from the house on the right, opposite another gate. On return the latter occupant said parking there was problematic with farm traffic and others using the lane as a short cut. I could se his point. He suggested further up on the left by a gate pull-in without blocking.

One of my favourite beats as long as you come on a quiet week day. Steady fishing using double nymphing, Duo and Dry. The best fish was a very solid 18” the others went 17”, 16”, 13”, 2 x 12”,10”.”

This is a lovely beat made up of long stretches of flat water and three sets of riffles. Today was cool with a cool breeze and a mix of sun and cloud. Very little hatching, certainly for most of the day, and almost no risers, so I headed for the riffles to find fish.
I caught pretty steadily, especially earlier when it was warmer, with at least half the fish being a pound plus. The day was crowned by a long fish of 2lb 3oz.
