Despite heavy rain the previous day, the Usk was fishable, and I found quite a few fish on the inside of a bend in shallower, steady water where presumably they'd gathered out of the big currents. Lost 3, landed one, on duo (heavy nymph) and spiders. An intense rise for about 2 minutes at about 1pm, when I didn't have a dry fly attached! When I'd got it on, the hatch/rise had finished. You've got to be ready...

Water high and coloured following heavy rain previous couple of days. Very limited safe wading as a consequence.

No fish this time, but a delightful beat and I will definitely return later in the season.

River, very high and a bit coloured. Saw nothing rise all day. Had to work hard to catch a few modest trout on nymphs.

4 Rainbows caught - all on Mepps and close in. Nothing after 11am when weather turned to heavy rain.
