Approximately 2 miles of double and 1 mile of single bank fishing on the River Irfon at Llanynis some 4 miles from the confluence with the Wye and 3 miles from Builth Wells. The beat averages 30 yards in width and has an excellent variety of water. The wading difficulty also varies - relatively easy in the gravel sections but more difficult over the bedrock. Cefnllysgwynne offers good trout and excellent grayling fishing, with the possibility of occasional salmon later in the season. The Irfon rises and falls quickly after heavy rain, usually being fishable within 24 - 36 hours of a flood.

Exclusivity is not guaranteed, in addition to day tickets, flexible season rods are also available for Cefnllysgwynne, either for the trout season, the winter grayling season or for all year round. Please see here for more details.

Trotting a maggot for grayling is permitted from 1st November to 2nd March.

Excellent self-catering accommodation in a 2 bedroom cottage or a 5 bedroom farm house (sleeping 4 or 10 respectively) is available close to the fishing. Please see Cefnllysgwynne Estate, Builth Wells. for more details.

Half price evening tickets can be purchased after 1pm on the day of fishing. Fishing is allowed from 5pm.

There was an outbreak of crayfish plague in the lower Irfon in July 2024. Visiting anglers MUST ensure against cross contamination by approved check/dry/disinfection procedures, and importantly waders, nets and tackle should be sprayed with Virkon disinfectant before and after fishing.
