Very quiet. Bit of movement late afternoon but no joy.

This was my second attempt at catching a Wye Salmon, and my third time ever salmon fishing. The beat as ever is gorgeous and it was nice to fish it differently, a salmon fly cast across pretty much anywhere on the beat swings across the river very pleasingly. My casting came together very nicely by the afternoon but despite doing a reasonable impression of someone who knows what they’re doing I failed to catch, a lovely late summers day on the river nonetheless.

Fished quite deep with weighted shrimp patterns. Best grayling about 16”.

Water grew increasingly high and muddy as day went on.
Very enjoyable however

This was only my second time fishing for salmon (first time on my own), and I’m really glad I picked Abernant. The setting is stunning, and the pools look very likely to hold fish. The conditions looked good, but I only managed to tempt trout up to around 3/4lb. Many thanks to the charming owner for the advice on where to target fish.

11lb cock fish on edw pool, Coloured fish with well developed kype. Landed at 6.30 pm on a Hardy Artisan with Cascade fly (which I believe was gifted to me and tied by Chris Price)

Needed a day away - suspected that there would be too much water - I was correct. Swirling wind as well. Lost one (small). Nothing happening by 18.00 so I finished.

Water very coloured could see about 18ins down .one fish showed and a10 ins brownie took an ally shrimp.
