Day 1 of 2 on this beat, river conditions perfect for trotting for Grayling. Caught in the field then upstream in the woods. Called it a day at 10.30 after snapping my float rod. Excellent excuse to buy a new one.

Great conditions on the final day of a miserable season resulted in an injury time winner... A 38” hen fish on a red pot belly pig. Fish never left the water, and was returned safe and sound to continue her journey and spawning! We certainly need her gene pool and offspring for future seasons...

Nine grayling to 10” five oos trout to 8”. (Do any anglers use the metric system by the way? Is it an age thing?) on a team of three wet flies with William’s Favourite most effective and an olive bodied partridge not far behind.
