One trout lost at the bank - lowest water levels I have ever seen at the reservoir after the very dry and hot summer. Some of my favourite spots were completely dry (about 7/8 ft down).

Everything seemed perfect for it! Fished hard, countless tip and fly changes but not a knock all day, working with the theory that the fish have pushed up in the recent high water so attempting some upper Wye beats before end of the season.

A late afternoon session of 3 hours. The chub came to pellet and feeder. Then moved and had a whopper of a barbel at 10lb 5oz, my biggest barbel from the Wye. The first 3 seconds I thought it was a chub but that was just it shaking its head. It then took off down the river and stripped about 70 meters of line. Bent my landing net getting it out. Am over the moon. I’ve had some dire days on the Wye and this has made up for it all! Also lovely to meet my fellow angler who seemed to have had a good day.

River looked fine with good flow and a tinge of colour, so expected a few more fish. Bright sunshine all day maybe didn’t help.
All fish caught on boilies from various swims.

Fished from mid morning to 6.15 as I was under orders to be back at the hotel in time for dinner.
Had barbel first at 5lb 6oz and lost another soon after that got snagged in my swim. A 3rd barbel was hooked before my line mysteriously parted , possibly due to damage from earlier snag which I hadn’t detected. The bright sun now was at its fiercest and bites came to a halt , moved to another swim that was partly shaded and had 7 chub , best 4lb 2oz. Enjoyable, but I felt I should’ve done better.
1 Barbel, 7 Chub
