Always a pleasure fishing this beat with the nice garden opposite.
Moved from our first swim as there was too much weed to get snagged on which wasn't visible in the still slightly coloured river. It paid off and we started catching barbel after about an hour and steadily after that. Pellet feeder again being the method today.
Most of the barbel were in the 7lb range so a good average size. I cleaned off any lice found on the barbel in the net in the water which were mainly at the back of the dorsal fin or on the pectorals. One barbel leaked out some eggs on the unhooking mat which I have never seen happen before.
Todays wildlife included a little egret, kingfisher flying under the rods, sand martins again in the far bank nesting in drainage holes in the wall and of course a buzzard or two again.
No taxi service available this time but we are fit and able. Its a long walk if you aren't.

Thankfully river had continued dropping overnight and was some 4ft down comparative to the same time the day before. Water still very muddy but there were more choices and even some of the gravel bar opposite the gardens had begun to appear. Hope were high after an early lost barbel to pellet. Then followed an eel to luncheon meat - not particularly welcome! By lunch time I had managed to lose 4 barbel all to hook pulls, one right at the net which had torn all round the river and was a real lump... Luck had to change and around 1 pm the first was banked at 6 lb. Over the next few hours 4 more duly followed all between 6-8lb and also a gudgeon! Never had one of those on a 10mm pellet before. Strangely chub did not show at all, not even their knocks. Conditions were improving all the time as the river dropped, but having 9 takes in a day makes the long walk back worthwhile. Thx again WUF I will be back.

A tough day. River was very high and half a forest was washing down it. Most spots were inaccessible and was only able to fish in the margins out of any flow at all. First 6 hours were fruitless but around 1 pm a small knock resulted in the water erupting more than it already was. A fantastic fight ended in a perfectly conditioned exact 9lb Barbel - a Wye PB. No further knocks or runs until 6pm when managed a 4lb chub. Not seen the river this high before - it certainly changes quickly, as through the course of the day it had dropped over 2ft

We started early getting to the River for 5 in the morning. River conditions were coloured with a little bit of extra flow. This is a beautiful spot to fish with the weir gardens opposite it only took the first 15 minutes to get the first chub on the bank the bites then came steadily throughout the day with the bulk of the action coming in the early morning. We caught a few clonking chub to over 6lb but the average was 4 lb biggest barbel was 8 lbs that gave me the fight of my life. This was our first time on the Wye and we will definitely be returning and recommending to others.

River levels very high for summer, approximately 1.6m at start of day and then dropping very slowly; - water coloured.
Fished opposite the Weir Gardens, but this is a very long walk from the car park, even when carrying the minimum of gear. Taking a tackle box plus accessories, would make it an SAS route march. However, access to the swims at the water's edge was easy.
Even though the river levels were high and the river was pushing through very fast, caught a personal best barbel of 9lb 3oz. My brother, who had never fished for barbel before, caught a 7lb 8oz barbel. He also lost what was probably a very large carp, but we never saw the fish. Also had a 3ib 1oz chub.

Arrived at the river 8:00am. It was running about 3 to 4 foot over with a bit of colour but it looked good and we anticipated a productive day. We never even had a single bite all day. We tried various swims along the stretch but to no avail.....so at 4:00pm we decided to call it quits. It looks an interesting piece of river and I would like to try it again in the summer but today we were badly beaten.......nothing to report!!!
