Lovely beat, warm sunny day, only one fish

Weather as before: blazing sunshine for most of the day. Also as before had to leave before the evening rise. Still managed one trout, not huge, on an emerger in a slow pool. Did not make it to the top of the beat because disinclined to wade round too many field gates fortified with barbed wire.

A really lovely stretch; tricky wading, as advised. The river was low, and few trout were rising. A few mayfly, and one cloud of spinners I could not identify; large, but smaller than mayfly in any event. Lost one fish on a humpy fished blind. Nothing otherwise. Access to the river at either end of the meadow opposite the parking place is fine; subsequent gates have to be waded round, which is tricky without felt and studs and would be no fun at all in higher water.

Can highly recommend for fishermen the airbnb we stayed in in Crickhowell; Alistair, who runs a paragliding tuition business in the town as well as the airbnb, is a knowledgeable and helpful fly fisherman as well.

Fished 8am-3pm and spotted several along the beat but nothing caught. Wading can be very slippy in the middle and top pools.

First time fishing the beat, what a great place to spend the day. Will definitely return, hopefully with less rain. Four trout, three on nymphs and one on a dry later on in the day.
