Hav'nt fished here for many years, it started to get heavily fished so I left it alone. Certainly not back to its best but a loverly place none the less. Started at the bottom of the beat and fished through the entire glide there and couldn't find anything. And just as I found a couple there was a hatch and they all came up on top. Caught 3 more and a trout on dries and then they started to get very picky, after a frustrating hour I gave in and moved on. It seems like the fish have shoaled up now because I didn't find much anywhere else. The water temp was extremely cold today so it was good to see the fish respond so well to the hatch as it was the first I have seen all winter !
Grayling all a good size up to 14" and trout to 12".

Foggy all day long. Temperature around 4 degrees celsius, water clear but still could be lower to have an access to winter grayling places. Used French leader and managed to convince one chubby grayling on a long distance and one trout on a short line in shallower waters. Hard work but great fun and beautiful misty nature.

River clear but high and fining down. First time fishing here so unfamiliar with the beat. Small grayling from heads of pools fishing French leader and three nymphs

Water was a good height and all fish were a good size. Trout seemed more active than grayling, even to deeply fished bugs

Frustrating day as a small rise coloured up the water for most of the day. Started to drop out late afternoon. The usual hotshots just didn't come up with the goods this time. Stunning scenery. Will be back.

One strong pull from what might have been a salmon, although owner Sean who was with me at the time said it was likely to have been a big trout. Some smaller trout managed to attack the salmon fly despite all the leaves in the water. Otherwise no salmon seen or encountered. That was more than compensated for by some brilliant spey-casting tuition and tips about the beat (and many other fishing matters) from Sean.

First visit to Craig Lyn and indeed the Wye as a whole. Very nice beat with easy parking and access from the car park in the caravan park. The water was clear but slightly up due to overnight rain with plenty of good looking water to fish through. Reasonable number of upwings and stoneflies coming off when the sun was out but only saw a couple of rises all day. Had a brief go with fishing the dry blind but didn't get a response. Most productive method was nymphing with a small shrimp on the dropper and a tungsten beaded nymph on the dropper Euro nymphing style. Didn't catch a huge number of Grayling but half a dozen of those that I did were certainly over a 1lb with the best probably around the 1.75lbs mark. A word of warning though, be very careful when wading as large parts of the riverbed are bedrock can be very slippy! Will certainly return at some point as it was a very enjoyable beat!
