First time fishing this fantastic beat, and it certainly lived up to expectations. As many others have already noted, the setting is beautiful and the fishery is exceptionally well managed. The variety of water on offer allows anglers to employ a range of techniques. I spent most of my time nymphing under a New Zealand yarn indicator in the faster runs and riffles. There was plenty of interest throughout the day, although only one fish ultimately found its way to the net. A special mention goes to Rachael, one of the owners, whom I met during my visit and who was incredibly helpful, welcoming, and accommodating.

Beat:How Caple Court

Fishing:Coarse

Very tough conditions as the river was exceptionally low and clear. Great day nonetheless with patience paying off eventually. Multiple techniques were tried on the day with the clear winner being single banded pellet & PVA bag.
(Someone did try to sneak in and fish with out a booking but the bailiff swiftly kicked him off)

Bright and warm: water 18 deg C by 10am, 20 deg C by 2pm. Consequently much more casting practice than fishing with the double hander (sans fly - which was pretty much the plan anyway!), but nice to be out on a proper big river, and see some of the pool structure at low flows for future visits. Friendly family camping in the meadow on the true left bank.

Fished afternoon and evening. Tried trotting and wading to no avail. Thinking conditions against me ,thought Id scope out the layout of river for future visits, started to walk the length of river up from beach. Half way up looked down a couldnt believe my eyes , a shoal of barbel at my feet all coming in and out of a deep spot and overhanging tree. Watched in awe as they glided between each other. Beat a quick retreat, grabbed my gear..... fed heavy for an hour and rolling meat ...... it's easy when you know where they are!!!!
